2009 Elfin Type 5 - first images and details
Elfin, the Australian Sports Car manufacturer, will unveil the first production run of the Type 5s at the upcoming Australian International Motor Show (AIMS) in Sydney on 9th October.
The Type 5 chassis is constructed from pre-cut tubular mild steel, is spot welded, quality checked and then fully welded and checked again. The welds are cleaned up and then the chassis is taken to be powder-coated.
It’s powered by a GM-sourced 2.0-liter four cylinder turbocharged engine making 260 hp. In this Ultra lightweight roadster, the power to weight radio is better than a Ferrari F430. The engine will be mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. Type 5 will hit a top speed of 149 mph.
