The New York Auto Show is fixing to be a big event for Hyundai after the Korean manufacturer has already given the green light for the unveiling of a hybrid version of their newly launched 2011 Sonata sedan. With the release of the Hybrid Sonata, Hyundai is banking the assumption that the car will have what it takes to go toe-to-toe with its competitors, including the Ford Fusion Hybrid and Toyota Camry Hybrid.

The 2011 Sonata Hybrid will feature a massive lower grille inspired by the Blue-Will Concept. It will be powered by the same 2.4-liter direct injected inline-four as the standard sedan. The engine will be combine with a six-speed automatic gearbox and a 30 kw electric motor.

Stay tuned for the official debut on Wednesday, March 31.

I like the idea of LED DRLs, but the linear arrays I’m seeing smack too much of Pep Boys chic for my taste. It shouldn’t be hard to design nice LED lighting that doesn’t look like a rope light.

I drove the new Sonata and I must say it’s much better in styling and comfort than it’s competitors: Camry, Altima & Accord. Will check this hybrid thing out this weekend.

I like this car more than mazda 3, though they’re both HB cars, the speed of both cars are very far.

Lovely looking sonata! It looks more like a sports car and not a luxury vehicle. Specially the honeycomb grille and intake.

Nice, looks like a Honda though. Hybrid cars are what we need now. Why do they have to wait for next year? Anyhow. If the streets gets crowded with hybrid cars, then the air will be cleaner and a trip to the city will be pleasant.
