PGO Automobiles is noted for being a French automaker that specializes on small production cars that are designed to accommodate our longing for the cars of the past while also boasting of modern-day performance specs.

Continuing in their trend of old-school meets new age, PGO decided to release a special edition model of one of it's most popular models, the Cévennes.

Called the Ultimate Black, the neo-retro two-seater sports car offers plenty of endearing traits to itself that makes it a very attractive car for young and old people alike. PGO decided to make the car look as fashionably sport as it can be by offering plenty of options and accessories so that customers can pretty much build the look of their car depending on their tastes and preferences.

PGO was likewise able to do this by still keeping the Cévennes unique, 50's look, ensuring all would-be customers that even as a special edition, the Cévennes Ultimate Black retains the same alluring qualities about it that has made it one of PGO's most popular models.

Exterior and Interior

Designed to be a modern-day sports car with a design that harkens back to the days of yesteryear, the PGO Cévennes Ultimate Black is a neo-retro style, two-seater roadster that looks the part of a 1950s Porsche->ke1, offering a unique styling that infuses both traditional lines with modern and sporty styling. It's a lot like owning one of those classics - or close to it - without being bothered by all the maintenance needs of what those classics will invariably require.

The body is built from a multi-tubular composite molded bodyshell with a McPherson suspension system and riding on a set of 17" alloy wheels. The car's overall shape suggests that it could have also been iterated from a Volkswagen Beetle->ke318, although if you're into the validity of owning a unique two-seater roadster that boasts of qualities of old and new wrapped in one package, the PGO Cévennes Ultimate Black's overall design fits into that need.

Inside the car, PGO is offering the Cévennes Ultimate Black with plenty of interior features that include a leather interior trim (seats, inside of doors, dashboard, and control lever), electrically operated side windows and outside mirrors, heated windscreen, remote control central locking, a leather trimmed steering wheel, height adjustable steering column, Aluminum trimmed gear knob and pedals, Aluminum threshold doors, matched carpet fronts, a rolling code transponder immobilizer, a radio CD/MP3 with two FOCAL loudspeakers, and an analogical instrumentation that includes the speedometer, RPM indicator, fuel gauge, water temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, oil temperature gauge, voltmeter, and, of course, a clock.

As added options, you can avail of a leather interior trim that's offered in a multitude of colors, a Nappa leather interior trim, Alcantara interior trim, a two-tone leather interior trim, a special leather interior trim, differentiated colored overstitching, differentiated dashboard color, embroidered varnished paint, pearly varnished paint, an Alpaca hood with a choice of either beige or a two-tone finish, a parking aid, an alarm, and a choice of 17" alloy wheels that include "SpeedsterII", "Cevennes", "classic", and "sport".

Performance

The PGO Cévennes Ultimate Black is powered by 2.0-liter, four-cylinder transverse mid-engine that produces 138 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 144 lb/ft of torque at 3,000 rpm that's mated to a 5-speed manual transmission with an option of a 4-speed automatic gearbox. Translated numbers equate to a top speed of 134 mph with a 0-62 mph time of just under seven seconds.

Pricing

No word yet on the car's pricing details, but the standard Cévennes retails for £29,995, which is about $49,500 based on current exchange rates. As far as educated guesses are concerned, we'll peg the Cévennes Ultimate Black at somewhere around $70,000, give or take a few thousand dollars.

Neo-Retro Cars Are Cool These Days

Nostalgia is a funny thing and apparently, it's also becoming a trend within the auto industry these days. The continuing emergence of sports cars dressed with looks of old time's past is becoming a hot ticket for automakers these days. In addition to the PGO Cévennes, other models like the Imperia GP and the Wiesmann Roadster MF5 have certainly caught our attention.

While the PGO Cévennes is nowhere in the league of the two high-powered retro roadsters - the Imperia GP is powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine with 210 horsepower to go with an electric motor with 136 horsepower while the Wiesmann Roadster MF5 comes with a 5.0-liter V10 engine with 507 horsepower and 384 lb/ft of torque - all three sports cars gives us all the indication we need that cars styled old-school with modern performance specs is becoming a popular trend these days.
