The BMW M4 Coupe is getting a ton of publicity mileage recently and from the looks of things, that's not letting up anytime soon. Days after BMW->ke178 launched the M4 Coupe DTM Safety Car set to live life as the official safety car of the 2014 DTM season, another racing series has turned to the M4 Coupe as well.

MotoGP has given is riders an incentive that makes qualifying a more competitive environment than it already is. That's because the competition for the BMW M Award for Best Qualifier throughout the 2014 season has a pretty cool prize at the end of the proverbial rainbow.

A specially-designed BMW M4 Coupe.

This is the 12th year that the BMW M Award has been up for grabs and the setup has remained largely the same. Similar to the point system used in the actual races, the the BMW M Award classification will have its own version for the qualifying sessions where riders are awarded points relative to their positions in qualifying. Whoever scores the most points at the end of the season not only gets the title of 'fastest qualifier,' they also goes home with a BMW M4 Coupe->ke141. That's what you call a 'win-win' situation.

The 2014 season already has four qualifying sessions under its belt and 2013 MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez sits comfortably on top with 100 points, well clear of Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa who both are tied for second with 62 points each.

It's still too early to tell who gets to win the BMW M Award, but it's beginning to like a title that's Marquez's to lose.

Why It Matters

Who doesn't want to receive a BMW M4 Coupe for free? Even if those MotoGP guys get paid handsomely to race, we doubt that they'd have issues taking home a specially-customized M4 Coupe. Besides, winning the BMW M Award also means that the rider was competitive throughout the season so that's another incentive, not just for him personally, but also for his employer.

BMW M4 Coupe

Since the BMW M4 Coupe was unveiled at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show->ke222, the sports car has been one of the most popular BMW models in the market.

The model comes as a replacement to the old M3 coupe and, unlike the model it replaces, the M4 features a sportier and more aerodynamic look. Also gone is the archaic 4.0-liter, V-8 engine and in comes a modern 3.0-liter, inline six-cylinder engine that features M TwinPower Turbo technology.

Even though the new engine is smaller, it delivers more power than the V-8 it replaces — 425 horsepower between 5,500 and 7,300 rpm and 406 pound-feet of torque between 1,850 and 5,500 rpm. This is plenty to sprint the M4 from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 3.9 seconds and up to a governed top speed of 155 mph.
