After months of speculation, spy shots and “leaked” 3-D images raising the anticipation level and the excitement of the fanboy in us, here it is folks, The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, and yes, the iconic Stingray name is back since it was last seen in the C3 ‘Vette.
As promised, Chevrolet has taken off the wraps of what’s arguably one of its most highly anticipated cars. This is the day we at TopSpeed have been waiting for since all of this C7 talk started.
Rather than calling it the “Corvette,” Chevy boldly calls it the “New Corvette.” Calling it “new” is absolutely correct, as everything on the car is brand new. From a new design to a new powertrain to a brand new interior, Chevrolet has revolutionized every nook and cranny of the `Vette. But it still has that modern Corvette philosophy that has been retained for the past six generations, maybe even made it better.

First-Production Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Fetches $925,000 at Barrett-Jackson Auction
The first-production Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, a.k.a. the fastest and most powerful Corvette in history, went up for auction at the Barrett-Jackson event over the weekend. Based on how much previous first-production Corvettes fetched in similar auction settings — the first-production Corvette Z06, for example, sold for $800,000 — we expected the ‘Vette ZR1 to sell in the neighborhood of $1 million. It never reached that amount, but we were still pretty close because the first-production ZR1 sold for a whopping $925,000.

The first-production 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will go up for auction at Barrett Jackson’s 47th Annual Scottsdale Auction on January 20 at WestWorld Arena in Scottsdale, Arizona. Joining at as an auction headliner is a Ford GT that’s the first of its kind to be donated for a charity auction. You don’t need to tell me that bids are going to fly once these two prized exotics hit the stage. The only question is, “how much will each car fetch?”
Genovation GXE, the Electric Corvette, Gets More Power for its Pre-Production Debut at CES
Will wonders ever cease? It certainly doesn’t seem like it. Remember that electric Corvette from Genovation Cars that hit 200 mph in 2016 before being show off at Pebble Beach? Well, it will make another public appearance at the 2018 CES show in January, but this time with 800 horsepower and more than 700 pound-feet of torque on tap – figures that promise to push it to the 220-mph mark and all without the use of any dino juice… Oh, what a time to be alive.
Based on the C7 Corvette that’s about to be retired to make way for a new generation, the GXE was originally rated at just 492 kilowatts or around 660 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of twist. Those aren’t bad figures for an electric beast, that’s for sure. We’re not sure how Genovation did it, but it’s managed to provide the world with updated specs that now include an extra 140 ponies and at least 100 more pound-feet of torque. Those figures are pretty staggering, but even more so, when you consider the Corvette ZR1 delivers just 755 ponies and 715 pound-feet. Of course, this news also comes with more goodies too, including an updated specs sheet that promises a 60-mph sprint in less than three seconds and a top speed that peaks more than 220 mph.
There is a downfall, however, as that GXE Electric Vette won’t get you very far and you better not expect a fun day at the track. Despite the fact that battery technology is on the up and up, this baby only gets 130 miles or so from its 60-kWh battery pack, and there’s no word on charging time, either. So, when you shell out the $750,000 for one of those 75 models being created don’t expect to do a whole lot with it outside of some occasional playing or trotting back and forth around town.

The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is the fastest and most powerful Corvette ever created. It has 755 horsepower and 715 pound-feet of torque on tap, and when used to its potential, it’s capable of sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in a staggering 2.6 seconds. These numbers are more than enough to leave people breathless, but one tuning company isn’t impressed. Not one bit, actually. Welcome, then, to the world of Hennessey, where 755-horsepower cars are shrugged off in favor of tuned versions of the same car, dialed up to as much as 1,200 horsepower.
There’s nothing surprising or shocking about this because we’re talking about Hennessey. This is the same outfit that gave birth to the mental Venom GT. It’s also the same company that served up an even more monstrous follow-up in the Venom F5. Oh, and we can’t forget about its tuning programs. There’s been a lot of them. But now, it’s the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1’s turn in the spotlight, and in true Hennessey fashion, it doesn’t disappoint. Not by a long shot.
Leaked CAD Images Show Off Parts of the Mid-Engined Corvette
At first glance, they look like colorful spaceship renderings done by someone with far too much time on his hands. They’re not spaceships, though, because they’re actually CAD renderings of the next-generation engine that will be used on the new Chevrolet Corvette. I know, right? It’s not exactly the cleanest of presentations, but thanks to some expert sleuthing from members of Corvetteforum.com, they’ve uncovered what they believe to be the bones of the new powertrain.
Hennessey is Ready to Tune the Hell Out of Your 2019 Chevy Corvette ZR1
There’s something to be said for a Chevrolet Corvette that’s considered the fastest and most powerful of its kind that has ever been created. That’s the distinction the new Corvette ZR1 comes with. It has 755 horsepower and 715 pound-feet of torque at its disposal, allowing it to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds. Those are impressive numbers, but not quite good enough for a company like Hennessey. The American tuning shop that’s responsible for some of the most extreme tuning programs in the business has developed not one, not two, but three programs for the Corvette ZR1, topping out with the HPE1200 kit. Care to venture a guess what the “1200” in that kit’s name means?
His Angel Was Riding Shotgun: Chevy Corvette Z06 Crashes into a House
Turned on its side, a wheel missing, various engine items thrown about, and the passenger seat ejected. How any person could walk away from such a horrific crash is mindboggling, but that’s exactly how things went for the unknown driver of the Chevy Corvette Z06 that you see above. As of now, details are scant, but a handful of pictures posted by Thomas Minnear on Facebook show the aftermath of a crash that was likely facilitated not only by speed but by excessively worn tires as easily noticed by shots taken of the tire that came off during the accident. Even without an official police report, it’s pretty easy to see that the driver of this car was quite lucky to have walked away.
Mr. Minnear posted what has to be the most relevant comment of the year along with the photos: “I’d say his angel was riding shotgun.” That’s pretty much an understatement considering the fact that the driver has reportedly walked away and, had there been a passenger (other than a guardian angel, of course,) they probably wouldn’t have been so lucky. In the end, the driver’s ego is tarnished, his car destroyed, his angel scared shitless, but in the end, he and those in the house still have their life, so you could say things managed to work out. Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Convertible: Old vs New - Almost 50 Years Apart
First introduced in 1969, the Corvette ZR1 has been offered for all generations since the C3, except for the C5 model. This pretty much makes it a constant presence in the Corvette lineup. However, when Chevy revised the ZR1 for the first time in 1990 after a 21-year absence, it didn’t offer a convertible version. The drop-top was ignored with the C6 model, produced between 2009 to 2013, too. Chevrolet finally took the roof of the ZR1 at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show, unveiled the convertible model only weeks after it launched the beefed-up coupe. This makes the C7-gen Corvette ZR1 Convertible the first topless ZR1 in 48 years, and the event requires a bit of celebration with a proper comparison between the two.
The ZR1 nameplate has come a long way all these years, and this comparison’s purpose is to showcase just that. Now a full-fledged, stand-alone performance model with radical changes compared to the standard car, the ZR1 actually started life as a package for a trim that wasn’t even the most powerful in the lineup. First Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Will Be Auctioned for Charity in January
Unveiled in mid-November 2017, the C7-gen Corvette ZR1 is the quickest, most powerful, and most aerodynamic Corvette ever built. At the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show, Chevrolet also unveiled a convertible version, only the second such body style to be offered since the original ZR1 was introduced back in 1969. While launching the ZR1 Convertible, Chevrolet announced that the first production unit of the ZR1 will be auctioned for charity in January 2018. Specifically, a coupe example will go under the hammer at the Barrett-Jackson event in Scottsdale, Arizona on January 20.
All proceeds collected by the 755-horsepower, 715-pound-foot supercar will benefit the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which builds mortgage-free smart homes for severely injured firefighters through its Building for America’s Bravest program. The foundation is named for a New York City firefighter and first responder who died during the World Trade Center terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
The Corvette ZR1 joins an impressive lineup of first-production models that were auctioned for charity by Chevrolet in recent years, like the Corvette Z06 and several Camaro models, including the drag-spec COPO. Given that the Corvette Z06 was auctioned for $1 million back in 2015, it’s safe to assume that the ZR1 will also raise a seven-digit sum for the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Goes Topless in Los Angeles
It’s been only two weeks since Chevrolet unveiled the new Corvette ZR1, and the Detroit-based company already launched the convertible version at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show. Wow, that was fast! I can’t say I didn’t expect it to happen at some point, but boy, I really didn’t see the ZR1 Convertible coming before 2018. The bigger news here is that the this is the first drop-top version of the ZR1 since the nameplate was first used back in 1970.
As with any topless version of an existing coupe, the ZR1 Convertible shares almost everything with its hardtop counterpart. The soft-top, which gives the driver and passenger access to infinite headroom, doesn’t do much to change the car’s appearance when it’s not folded in the trunk. What’s more, it adds less than 60 pounds to the overall weight, and it doesn’t significantly alter the ZR1’s aerodynamics, so both the low and high wing packages are offered. The soft-top is power operated and can be folded remotely while the car is stopped or driving at speeds of up to 30 mph.
“The ZR1 convertible is a no-compromise supercar,” said Corvette Executive Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter. “Thanks to the strong structure, the suspension tuning between coupe and convertible models is identical, meaning the ZR1 convertible offers the same benchmark performance, including a top speed of over 200 mph.” Performance figures aren’t yet available, but the coupe needs less than three seconds to hit 60 mph, to go with a top speed of 212 mph.
Chevrolet also announced pricing for the Corvette ZR1. While the coupe retails from $119,995, the convertible costs $123,995 before options, including destination, but excluding tax, title, and dealer fees. The ZTK Performance Package, which includes the High Wing, costs $2,995.
Taco Bell Employees Can Get As Much As $4,000 In Discounts On A Chevrolet Corvette
Being an employee of a fast food chain doesn’t traditionally come with a lot of perks. But just in case you’re an employee of Taco Bell, you should know that you qualify for a discount of a little more than $4,000 on a Chevrolet Corvette. Turns out, employees of the fast food restaurant are considered suppliers to General Motors. That designation means that you’re eligible for discounts under GM’s Supplier Pricing scheme. It’s not just the Corvette either as a significant number of models under the Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac model are included in the discount program.
First-Production Chevrolet Corvette Carbon 65 Will Be Auctioned Off For Veterans
The Chevrolet Corvette Carbon 65 Edition is a saucy little number, isn’t it? Thanks to General Motors and the George W. Bush Presidential Center, you now have a chance to become the first owner of the special edition sports car when it goes up for auction at the upcoming Barret-Jackson Scottsdale event this coming January. Proceeds from the sale from the auction will go to the Bush Center’s Military Service Initiative, a charity that focuses on supporting post-9/11 veterans and helping them transition back to civilian life. The charity is supported by no less than former US President George W. Bush.
The Corvette Carbon 65 Edition made its debut at the 2017 New York Auto Show in April, created in no small part to Chevy’s motivation to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the legendary sports car. The car itself isn’t a special edition in the traditional sense of the phrase. Instead, the Carbon 65 Edition is a package that can be added to either coupe or convertible versions of the Corvette. The package consists mainly of exterior and interior upgrades, and Chevy is only creating 650 of them. That “numbered” status is a big part of the Corvette Carbon 65 Edition’s appeal, and the fact that the first-of-its-kind is headed to the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction makes this specific model all the more desirable. So is the fact that it will be signed by President Bush himself. That’s an extra shot of provenance for a special edition package that breathes new life into the iconic American sports car.

The New Corvette ZR1 Is the Mel Brooks of Sports Cars
When you’ve been around as long as I have, you realize that cinematography is going downhill. Yes, I know, new movies have a ton of cool special effects and CGI is getting better and better, but movies have been lacking substance for decades now. The fingers on my two hands are enough to count the great movies I’ve seen in recent decades. The rest of them... well, the same cliches and expensive struggles to make up for the lack of originality with fancy special effects and computer-generated imagery. This might piss you off, but all those superhero movies, the James Bond franchise, and the latest sci-fi stuff suck. Things get worse in the comedy business. I can’t say I laughed too much during 2017’s best-rated comedy films. Mel Brooks and John Cleese may still be alive as of 2017, but comedy screenwriting is as dead and stiff as a doorknob.
Oh, you’re probably wondering what’s with all the movie hate in a Chevrolet Corvette article. Well, it’s all Chevy’s fault. Don’t know if you noticed this, but its press release for the Corvette ZR1 end with the phrase "it’s good to be the king!" As in the new ZR1 is the king of the Corvette reign. Or maybe even the king of the sports car business. That’s cool for marketing, but what you might not know is that the phrase is taken word by word from "History of the World," an anthology comedy film written, produced, and directed by Mel Brooks. It was launched in 1981, and it became a classic. And, in case you haven’t seen it yet, which is very likely if you think the "American Pie" series is funny, the "it’s good to be the king" phrase is used in its final sketch, "The French Revolution," by King Louis of France, played by Mel Brooks.

Top 10 Greatest Chevrolet Corvettes Ever Built
Chevrolet just introduced the latest Corvette ZR1, setting a new benchmark for the iconic sports car. Not only the quickest and most powerful Corvette ever built, the new ZR1 is also the most aerodynamic iteration of the car and comes with features usually found on high-end supercars. It definitely eclipses every road-legal Corvette built to date in terms of performance. It also wins battles with every classic Vette I can think of, but it’s not the only Corvette that made a massive impact upon arrival. It’s rather difficult to talk about Corvettes from the past with a car as incredible as the new ZR1 on its way to showrooms, but I compiled a list of iconic models that deserve to share the same celebrity page with this supercharged monster.
I’ve made my picks based on a few factors. For starters, I wanted to include at least one model from each generation, so this list goes back to the original C1. I also took horsepower and performance in consideration, as well as market impact and production figures, favoring limited-edition models that evolved into prized collectibles. 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Convertible
Chevy just released its new Corvette ZR1, and the spec sheet is just this side of insane. All told, this thing is the fastest, most powerful production Corvette ever created, with a thumping supercharged V-8 under the hood, advanced adaptive suspension components and tuning, and more wing than an international airport. All good stuff, no doubt, but what happens when you take off the roof? To find out, X-Tomi Design put together a rendering, and long story short, we approve.
The ZR1 convertible bears the same upgraded front fascia as its hardtop sibling, with aggressive, angular front intakes, a large splitter, and a taller hood to accommodate the bigger blower underneath. The wheels, fender vents, and enormous rear wing are also a carryover. Up top, though, you’ll notice the expanded headroom. In-Depth Comparison – Corvette ZR1 Vs. Europe’s Supercars
Chevy just unveiled its incredible new Corvette ZR1 over the weekend, and while we have yet to get every single nitty gritty detail, our first look at the spec sheet reveals that yes, this thing is indeed a complete and utter monster. It’s a bit like the Z06 – that is, if the Z06 trained like it had the Superbowl on Sunday and a championship MMA fight on Monday. All told, the ZR1 is the fastest, most powerful production car Chevy has ever created, with all the right equipment needed to make it a full-fledged supercar. And when you consider that, it makes sense Chevy first pulled the sheets in a private event in Dubai, a town that could very well lay claim to the title of supercar capital of the world (seriously, just check out the Dubai police force!). So then, the question is this – how does the ZR1 fair when challenged by Europe’s idea of a supercar?

Chevrolet Plans To Unleash The New Corvette ZR1 At The Nurburgring
With Chevrolet blowing the doors off to signal the arrival of the incredible Corvette ZR1, now the sole holder of the title “most powerful Chevrolet car in history,” we all knew that it would only be a matter of time before the discussion about the sports car turned to its possible exploits at the world’s most famous race track. It shouldn’t come as a surprise, then, that barely a few days have passed since the Corvette burst into our lives and yes, there’s already talk of it conquering the Nurburgring.
Corvette Chief Engineer, Tadge Juechter, broke the news to Road &Track, saying that Chevy will, in fact, attempt a flying lap around the 12.9-mile Nordschleife section of the ring with the goal of posting a lap time below seven minutes. Considering that only four street-legal, production cars - the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, Lamborghini Huracan LP640-4 Performante, Porsche 918 Spyder, Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 Superveloce - have ever accomplished that feat, the Corvette ZR1 is most certainly shooting for the stars and making no apologies about it. Since that planned trip to Germany isn’t for another few months, expect the discussion surrounding the ZR1’s potential to build up ahead of its eventual run at the ‘Ring. Hopefully, that happens sooner than later because with what the ZR1 is packing - 755 horsepower and a menu of advanced aero tech - that goal appears to be there for the taking.

2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1
The seventh-generation Chevrolet Corvette was unveiled in early 2013 and introduced for the 2014 model year. It replaced the nine-year-old C6 and essentially changed the way enthusiasts viewed the Corvette thanks to its significant upgrades. Besides the more angular and aggressive styling, the C7 also received a revamped interior that no longer made use of cheap plastics. The cabin was finally moved into premium territory, putting an end to decades of criticism. While it continued to use an all-engine V-8, the Corvette gained a supercharged unit with the Z06 badge. Come 2017, and Chevrolet took things to a whole new level with a new ZR1 model, the fourth since the early 1970s. Powered by a brand-new V-8, it’s the ZR1 with highest power, greatest track performance, and most advanced technology in its production history!
It took Chevrolet some four years to revise the range-topping ZR1, but the wait was definitely worth it. The new supercharged coupe surpasses every rumor we’ve been through so far with a significantly revised exterior, a menacing, race-inspired rear wing, and a supercharged V-8 engine that was designed on a clean sheet. After years of speculation, dozens of camouflaged test cars, and rumors that GM is also working on a mid-engined Corvette, the ZR1 is here to prove that Chevrolet isn’t yet willing to give up on its fantastic tradition and that the ZR1 legend will live on for a few more years. A Car God’s Blessing - The 2019 Chevy Corvette ZR1 is Finally Here
While you were not paying attention this weekend, the car God’s were busy blessing us with the 2019 Chevy Corvette ZR1 – quite literally the most powerful production model Chevy as ever introduced. Powered by a 6.2-liter, LT5, V-8, this force-fed monster delivers a butthole-puckering 755 horsepower and 715 pound-feet of torque, 105 ponies and 65 pound-feet more than the C7-gen Z06 – the most powerful and quickest Vette, well, until now, anyway. Chevy hasn’t gone into full performance details yet, but the new ZR1 can surpass 210 mph on the track. And, with the Z06 hitting the 60-mph sprint in 2.95 seconds, you can bet this beast does it in closer to 2.6 seconds. To help keep all of the muscle under control, the ZR1 is available with two aero packages, including a High Wing that can deliver as much as 950 pounds of downforce at speed.
It’s the most powerful and fastest, and it’s also the best-looking too. There’s an all-new front fascia that has extra air channels to help keep things cool as well as four new radiators for a total of 13 heat exchangers and hopefully a solution for that questionable overheating problem Chevy has had in the past. A new, excessively aggressive hood has been added to the ZR1 and was actually a necessity thanks to that massive supercharger that force feeds air into the intake. There’s also stanchion-mounted wings available that will help keep the monster pinned to the track. So, ready to learn a little more? The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Might Drop Cover In Dubai This Weekend
Word around the ‘Net is that Chevy will reveal its highly anticipated, track-focused iteration of the C7 Corvette, the ZR1, at an upcoming private event in Dubai on Sunday, November 12th. The rumor comes courtesy of the Bow Ties devotees over at CorvetteBlogger, who posted what appears to be a leaked image of the December issue of Car & Driver portraying one very orange and aggressive-looking ‘Vette parked under the ZR1 banner. The image is supported by further detail images taken from the magazine article itself, which appear to show the ZR1’s shifter, engine, and steering wheel, while a post made a day prior shows an invite to a special event in Dubai this weekend, apparently provided by a Middle East-based Corvette owner.
It’s assumed that the ZR1 will land stateside later this month at the Los Angeles Auto Show to wow domestic journalists, with a predicted production launch for spring of 2018. And yeah, Dubai does seem like a somewhat unusual place to reveal the red, white, and blue sports car, but as CorvetteBlogger points out, Chevy still managed to garner plenty of attention when it dropped the Corvette Grand Sport at the Geneva Motor Show, and with the L.A. show scheduled to kick off in a few weeks from now, the ZR1 should still get plenty of attention. High Rollin’: Five Sports Cars You Can Buy For Less Than The Price Of Tires for the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo
Remember the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo Concept? I’m sure most of you do because it’s on the short list of most incredible reveals in 2017. It’s essentially a more hardcore version of the Bugatti Chiron, and there’s only one of its kind in the world. Yes, it’s a legitimate one-of-one. It also happens to be super expensive and in the short life that it’s had, it’s already been owned by two people. Prince Badr bin Saud of Saudi Arabia was the hypercar’s original owner, who bought it from Bugatti for an undisclosed sum that’s rumored to be in the ten-figure range. It didn’t take long, though, for the Vision GT Concept to change owners as the one-off has found its way to the US courtesy of its new owner in Los Angeles.
As important as those things are, I’m here to talk about a startling discovery about the Vision Gran Turismo, and as some of you might expect, that “discovery” is related to its tires. Apparently - prepare to sit down for this one - a new set of tires for the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo costs $93,000. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, that’s $93,000. No typos. No misprints. No nothing. $93,000 for a set of tires.
Granted, it’s not out of the ordinary for the tires of Bugatti’s supercars to fetch insane amounts. A set of brand-new tires for the Veyron, for example, costs around $50,000 and a similar set for the all-new Chiron is actually a bargain at just over $40,000. But the Vision GT Concept trumps both of them, and it’s not even close. The price for a set of new tires for the concept is so preposterous that I’ve actually managed to come up with a list of sports cars that you can buy brand new for less than the price of the Vision GT’s tires. This is the auto world we live in now, folks. Love it or hate it, there’s no denying that it’s dripping in absurdity.

$350 Is All You Need To Make Your Go-Fast Corvette Go Faster
The auto industry can be a weird business, right? Imagine spending upwards of $50,000 on a tuning kit that makes your car go one second a lap faster on a race track. It seems weird to even think about, but it happens all the time in this industry so nobody bats an eye anytime a tuning firm charges whatever it does so long as the results are justified. Chevrolet, though, has a business that doesn’t revolve around these power and performance upgrades, and that partly explains why the automaker is charging a pittance for a software upgrade that ends in the current-generation Corvette getting a decent performance spike. So much so, in fact, that it improves its lap time around the automaker’s 2.9-mile Milford Roads Course race track. The cost of this software update? $350.
I’m not sure if it qualifies as the bargain of the century, but it certainly looks like one. Granted, the software update is non-obtrusive, so there’s really no physical changes to the Corvette’s physical makeup. All it does is modify the sports car’s Magnetic Ride Control suspension, which in turn leads to improved handling and ride quality for the ‘Vette. The result, as General Motors VP of performance vehicles and motorsports Jim Campbell puts it, “is a greater feeling of balance and more linear responses to driver inputs.” It’s the kind of improvement that won’t appear physically on the Corvette, but owners of the sports car are expected to feel it instantaneously. Even better, availing of the download won’t mess up your Chevy warranty since the software update is factory-developed and can only be installed by dealerships.
For now, the updated software is compatible for a handful of Corvette models, including 2014-2016 Corvette Stingray Z51s, 2016 Stingray, and 2015-2016 Corvette Z06s. Other Corvette variants are expected to receive the software update at a later time, so if anybody here owns any one of these Corvettes, there’s little reason to go the aftermarket route to spike up your sports car’s performance. All you need to do is go to Chevrolet directly, and it’ll take care of the business for you at a cost that’s presumably cheaper than an aftermarket lug nut.
Hagerty Has These 2017-2018MY Cars On Track To Be Future Collectibles
2017 has been quite the year for the automotive industry. We’ve seen hypercars make their debuts. We’ve seen incredible advancements and electrification and autonomous driving technology. Heck, we’ve even seen deceased brands come back to life - shout out to TVR! - with a vengeance. One of the best parts of all these releases is that at some point, some of them will inevitably skip the depreciation curve and become collectible cars. The trick is figuring out which ones will be able to navigate down that road, and if you’re trying to do that, there’s no better source of authority in matters pertaining to the collector car market than Hagerty.
It’s safe to say that when the insurance company talks, all of our ears perk up. If it says that one of today’s models is on the inside track to be a future classic, there’s a good chance that it could turn into one. Ok, so enough small talk. Hagerty’s has already released its picks of 2017-2018 models that are trending on the right path. It’s not a guarantee that these cars will earn collectible status in the future, but having Hagerty’s stamp of approval goes a long way in shaping the opinions of car collectors all over the world.

A Sad Sight: Cars Victimized by Mother Nature as Hurricane Harvey Ripped Through Texas
News surrounding Hurricane Harvey has been constantly flowing since the Category Three storm poured trillions of gallons of rainwater onto the coast of Texas over several days. Metro Huston and its surrounding areas are among the hardest hit. Among the more than 66 people dead and an estimated 44,000 homes flooded, nearly a million vehicles were lost to flood waters.
Images tell the clearest story, with photos of submerged cars lining once-busy Interstates and the aftermath of muddy water soaking into every nook and void within a car’s interior. Of the photos we’ve seen, the saddest are of antique and performance cars, including a vintage Porsche 911, several Corvettes and Vipers, and even a few late-model Ferraris. Of course, a flooded vehicle is legally required to be listed as such on its title, warning would-be buyers about its time under water. While we’re happy to see vintage and high-dollar vehicles get restored and retitled appropriately, some flood cars will be shadily repaired and sold on the pre-owned market with no indication to the buyer. This is most commonly done with average vehicles like pickups, SUVs, and family cars. The most recent large-scale case of this happening was Hurricane Sandy that hit New York and New Jersey in 2012. Hurricane Harvey will undoubtedly see the same illegal activity in its wake.
Unfortunately, we expect to see similar photos from Florida in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma.
The Chevy Corvette ZR1 Spotted with Less Camo; Proves Porsche and Ferrari Should Worry
It’s been a few months since we’ve seen the upcoming Corvette ZR1 out testing, with the last outing taking place on the Nurburgring in mid-April. The trail has since gone cold, but all that changed earlier this week when it was caught filling up with that sweet liquid gold we call gasoline. Even better yet, the prototype that was spotted is also half naked, giving us the best look at the coupe so far. Naturally, the entire front end and a small portion of the rear is still wrapped in the psychedelic camo that we all love to hate, but the lack of camo in the middle shows us that the ZR1 will, indeed, have the same rear quarters, roof, and doors found on the Stingray, Z06, and Grand Sport.
So far, there’s not a lot we know about the ZR1. It’s pretty much certain that the V-8 under the hood will be force fed, but whether or not that happens via a supercharger or a pair of twin turbos is still up in the air. We’re also not sure what it will deliver in terms of power, but with the Z06 cranking out some 650 ponies and the last-gen ZR1 making 638 ponies, we’re expecting no less than 700 horsepower out of the gate if not a little more. It should be able to tackle the 60-mph sprint in less than three seconds and will top out at more than 200 mph if you’ve got the balls to push it that hard. And, it’s about time that a C7-gen ZR1 makes its debut – the typical wait time for the ZR1 trim is about three to four years after the generation was introduced and 2018 will be the fourth year for the C7. So, we should be looking at a mid-2018 model or 2019 model at the latest. What can we spot in these new spy shots? Well, I’m glad you asked. Let’s take a better look real quick.
2019 Chevrolet Corvette Zora ZR1
Since Zora Arkus Duntov joined the Corvette team and crammed a V-8 into America’s sports car in 1955, the Belgian-born engineer chased ever more interesting and dynamic ways of making the little two-door go faster than anything else on the road. Zora was obsessed with speed and performance. Aside from setting a production car record up Pikes Peak in a Corvette, taking a standing-mile record at Daytona and starting the Grand Sport racing program, Zora consistently worked on mid-engined prototypes of Corvettes during his career. Despite having a mid-engined prototype of some form for almost every generation of the Corvette, there has never been a production car wearing the legendary Crossed Flags and carrying the engine behind the driver. That all looks to change in 2019 with the long-rumored Corvette Zora ZR1.
This new car is said to use the Zora name to make it a separate model from the current Corvette family, and when it debuts, it will be unveiled as an eighth-generation (C8) car. To create this new and exciting performance machine, Corvette engineers are expected to create a new aluminum chassis for mid-ship duty and fit the car with an uprated version of the supercharged V-8 found in the Corvette Z06. or also build a brand-new mill. The Zora is expected to carry a price of more than $100k, horsepower ratings in excess of 600 ponies, and return a top speed well above 200 mph. General Motors is no longer building a bargain performance monster. The new Zora will be a purebred supercar; full stop. Ferrari and Lamborghini, you have been put on notice.

2018 Chevy Corvette Orders Halted, Bowling Green Assembly Plant Shuts Down
Back in May, we brought you news about Chevy’s Corvette factory and its 18-month shutdown of public tours beginning in June. At the time, Corvette expert and trusted source, Mike Furman, sent out an e-mail saying giving us a number of possibilities as to why the tours were being shut down. The distinct possibilities included the retooling of the factory to produce the mid-engined Corvette ZR1 “Zora” and the possibility that GM is switching from pushrod engines to DOHC engines. I personally speculated that it could be both – GM is trying to hide as much as it can about the ZR1, with tours obviously a serious threat to the way information is leaked these days and the switch to DOHC being a huge undertaking. Keep in mind that the ZR1 will also be based on the C7 instead of the upcoming C8, so it’s possible that GM is preparing the factory for C8 production. Now, as we approach fall and August is ready to kick off, GM is shutting down the Bowling Green plant. The shutdown is going to last through the month of October – something that is also causing a halt of all new Corvette orders until further notice.
So, what is the shutdown really for? Well, that’s still a mystery as far as we’re concerned, but according to spokesperson Ron Kiino, the reason revolves around the building of a new paint shop that is said to be state of the art. That’s the most official information we’ve heard about the shutdown so far, but is it just a front as GM begins to shift toward building DOHC engines or the C8? It’s hard to say, but shutting down an entire factory, just to build a new paint shop seems a little sketchy to us. For what it’s worth, the shutdown doesn’t necessarily mean that you won’t be able to get a Corvette for the next three months. You won’t be able to order a 2018 model, but GM currently has 14,700 Corvettes in stock as of July 1, 2017. That’s the word from the Automotive News Data Center, and it does make sense considering such a long halt to production. So, what’s it all mean for those looking to buy a Vette in the next couple of months? Keep reading to learn more about it.
2018 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray: Fresh Options, Familiar Sticker
We’re big fans of the latest seventh-generation Chevrolet Corvette, even naming the 650-horse monster machine Z06 our Performance Car of the Year when it was first released in 2014. But now that we’re three years into production, its time for a little refresh. As such, the Bowtie is shaking up the options list, while keeping that old bargain pricing static.
Updates for the 2018 model year include a slew of aesthetic changes, as well as a few updates to the performance side of things. Outside, you’ll find standard staggered wheel sizing with an extra inch in diameter (20 inches in back, 19 inches in front). The new wheels come from the Z51 package, and there are new wheel designs on the table as well. A new Ceramic Matrix Gray exterior paint option replaces the outgoing Sterling Blue. Improvements inside include updates for the heads-up display and rearview camera, while the infotainment now comes with HD digital radio as standard. New interior colors were added to the 2LT trim level, while a Spice Red finish was added to the convertible top colors list. Spice Red was also added to the list of interior finishes for the 3LT and 3LZ trim levels. Go for the Jet Black suede interior, and you’ll get carbon fiber on the steering wheel and various trim bits. The 10 Most-American cars Built in 2017
Each year, the American University’s Kogod School of Business conducts a survey of the automotive industry. The D.C.-based school maps out the most American-made vehicles, regardless of their brand. Seven key criteria are used in determining the rankings, but it comes down to the percentage of American and Canadian parts used and location of the vehicles’ assembly, research and development, and corporate headquarters.
Though Kogod’s inclusive survey ranks every vehicle sold in the U.S., we’re focusing on the top 10. Much of the list hasn’t changed over 2016, but there are a few additions and missing models. An update in scoring for 2017 allows half-points for automakers (FCA, in particular) that have headquarters in multiple countries. It’s America’s Independence Day – the day we celebrate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, which ratified that the United States of America was no longer part of the British Empire. I know Brexit jokes are getting a bit old, but America did it before it was cool.
The Fourth of July is also a day for fireworks, parades, barbecues, fairs, picnics, and family reunions. For most of us, it’s also a long weekend spent on the road. We love to travel as much as any of you out there and this is why I put together a short list of cars we wish we could drive on Independence Day. And it’s not about supercars I can’t afford, but iconic vehicles I cannot buy because they don’t make them anymore.
I’m sure some of you would enjoy spending the Independence Day weekend in at least one of the cars in the list below as much as I would, so go ahead and have a closer look at the vehicles that should be revived in the modern era. Corvette Z06 Owners File Class-Action Lawsuit Against GM Over Performance Issues
Chevrolet Corvette Z06 owners have filed a class-action lawsuit against General Motors for overheating issues that cause the sports car to go into "limp mode" after only 15 minutes of track use. The lawsuit, filed in June by automaker-suing firm Hagens Berman, claims that a cooling system malfunction can put the Corvette Z06 into "limp mode," which drastically reduces the car’s power and speed. After only 15 minutes, which is by no means what you expect when you buy a car that can cost in excess of $100,000. What’s more, it turns out that the Z06 can go into limp mode on public roads too, which eliminates the scenario that this is an issue for customers who take their sports car to the track.
As is it the case with cooling system defects, the issue is also prone to do damage to important engine components, which adds costly repair bills to an already frustrating experience. The issue affects model-year 2015 to 2017 cars and Hagens Berman estimates that around 30,000 units may suffer from this problem. The lawsuit also claims that General Motors breached state and federal laws and it seeks financial damages for the owners.

Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Will Pace 101st Indianapolis 500
The 2017 Indianapolis 500 race is just around the corner, and the race organizers have just announced that the Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport is the race’s new pace car. The Grand Sport is the 14th Corvette and the 28th Chevrolet to lead the field at Indy, both of which are records.
"Chevrolet is proud to once again pace the Indianapolis 500,” said Steve Majoros, marketing director for Chevrolet cars and crossovers. “The Corvette Grand Sport’s performance capability and motorsports heritage make it the perfect choice to pace the Greatest Spectacle in Racing."

Is GM Retooling its Bowling Green Assembly Plant for the Mid-Engined Corvette ZR1?
As reported by National Corvette Museum and the Bowling Green Daily News, GM is set to shut down tours of it’s Corvette assembly plant for 18 months starting June 16 of this year. But, what’s the reason behind this massive tour blackout date? Well, there could be any number of reasons. According to Corvette expert, Mike Furman of Criswell Chevrolet in Maryland, it could be that GM is planning to retool the production line for the mid-engined Corvette ZR1 "Zora" and doesn’t want the tours to interfere with the setup or serve as a basis for leaked information prior the car’s official debut.
In his e-mail announcement, he also touched base on another big possibility. It could be that GM is retooling the factory and installing a new production line so that it can begin building DOHC engines instead of the traditional and aging pushrod engines that have soldiered on in the Corvette for decades. So, truth be told, GM could be trying to hide the upcoming ZR1 from the public eye, but it could be planning a big change in engine design as well. Of course, the fact the ZR1 will be based on the C7 and not the upcoming C8 points to the fact that GM may be preparing to get the C8 production rolling in the near future as well.

2017 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Heritage Blue Special Edition
Japan is home to one of the biggest auto industries in the world, so it’s understandable why many automakers send special edition models to the Land of the Rising Sun. Recently, General Motors took its turn gifting Japanese customers with a special edition Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport. The Vette is about as exclusive as they come, at least considering where it’s headed. The limited-run sports car is officially billed as the Grand Sport Admiral Blue Heritage Edition, and like most exclusive cars that come to Japan, it comes with some nifty features that underscore its status as a true special edition.
Needless to say, the Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Admiral Blue Heritage Edition isn’t going anywhere else in the world. In fact, even Japanese customers will have to fight over the special edition Corvette as reports indicate Chevrolet will only send over five units, each priced at ¥12.8 million. That converts to roughly $115,000 based on current exchange rates. By comparison, the Corvette Grand Sport starts at $66,445 here in the U.S., so Japanese customers will have to fork over nearly double to get their hands on one. Then again, it is an exclusive Corvette Grand Sport with unique details in the exterior and interior. Having a chance to own one means paying a premium for that opportunity.

2018 Chevrolet Corvette Carbon 65 Edition
Launched in 2013, the seventh-generation Corvette adopted a new styling language, GM’s latest in-car technology, and a significantly more upscale interior that finally moved the nameplate to the more premium side of the market. A new V-8 engine was also developed, as well as a redesigned Z06 that packs more horsepower than a Dodge Viper. Following a range of new updates for each model year, the Corvette celebrates its 65th anniversary with the Carbon 65 Edition at the 2017 New York Auto Show.
Wow, I can’t believe that almost 65 years have passed since the Corvette came to be, but yes, the original ’Vette goes back to 1953. Granted, it’s not as big as the 60th and 70th anniversary, but 65 years of making American sports car enthusiasts happy is a great reason to celebrate. And, the Carbon 65 Edition seems like the perfect package for a special event like this. Like the name suggests, the C7 is enhanced by means of carbon-fiber elements, but it also gets a number of unique visuals inside and out.
However, the upgrade isn’t available on just any model, but only on the Grand Sport 3LT and the Z06 3LZ. It’s also limited to only 650 units globally.
“Corvette is one of the most storied names in Chevrolet and sports car history, with a heritage few can match,” said Paul Edwards, U.S. vice president of Chevrolet Marketing. “The new Carbon 65 Edition honors that legacy, while offering customers another unique, special-edition model that personalizes the ownership experience.”

Will The Chevy Corvette get an Active Aero System in the Near Future?
If you’ve been paying attention lately, you know that the Lamborghini Huracan Performante made that amazing, record-setting lap time at the Nurburgring. You should also know that it was able to complete that lap thanks to an active aero system that is known as “Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva,” a system that allows the car to remain a little loose in the straightaways while achieving maximum downforce when cornering. Well, Lambo is the only brand that has been working hard on active aero systems as Chevy has also been hard at work, and according to a patent that was published on March 23, 2017, the Corvette could be the first in line to get the GM designed, active aero system.
That’s right; the patent itself gives a pretty fair breakdown of the system but shows that it has been designed around the Corvette. And, that points to something really important: A hardcore track-focused Corvette could be in the works! Of course, we don’t know this for sure, and like some patents, this one could fizzle away into nothing. Autoguide even contacted Chevy Communications to ask about the active aero system, and the only response it received was “We have no comment at this time.”

2017 Yenko S/C Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport
Back in the day when muscle cars dominated the American auto consciousness, the name Steve Yenko was regarded as a wizard of performance modifications. As the man who ran Yenko Chevrolet of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, Yenko oversaw an aftermarket division that gave birth to the Yenko Camaros, considered today as one of the most sought-after Camaros among enthusiasts of the pony car. Yenko Chevrolet’s run was brief, though, as the company stopped making customized Camaros in the early 80’s, and it wasn’t until 2009 when the name returned to the spotlight with the announcement that General Marketing Capital Incorporated (GMCI) announced its ownership of the Yenko trademark. Fast forward to today and the name “Yenko” has officially returned, albeit on a different model altogether. This, ladies and gentlemen, is the 2017 Yenko S/C Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, a heavily modified Corvette that comes with upgrades galore, none more impressive than a new engine output of 800 horsepower and 750 pound-feet of torque.
The modifications themselves are about as extensive as it’s going to get and the company behind the build of these cars – Specialty Vehicle Engineering – says that the whole custom package for the Corvette took six months to develop. Ultimately, the final product is what you see here and it’s modified looks serve as a nice preview of what’s now lurking under that vented hood.
Unfortunately, a difficult and time consuming build like this one means that SVE isn’t making a lot of them. Only 50 units of the Yenko S/C Chevrolet Corvette are going to be built and those who are interested to get one will have to shell out an extra $46,000 for the modifications alone. That cost is on top of the 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport’s starting price of $66,445. Do the math and that adds up to $110,445 for an 800-horsepower Corvette Grand Sport that bears the name of the iconic Camaro tuner.

It’s not something that seems to happen as much today as it used to, but those of us who learned to drive at any time before the turn of the millennium we’re often lucky enough to get behind the wheel long before we were actually of legal age to drive. I personally learned to drive at the age of 10 under the supervision of my father, however, I learned to drive in a pickup truck and was only allowed to do so on back roads on random occasions. These days, it doesn’t seem to happen as much, but here we have a video of a lucky 11-year-old that not only knows how to drive at such a young age but is shown on camera participating in a drag race against a Corvette. Talk about crazy, right?
The video itself is very short and hasn’t even attained 3,000 views in the seven months that it has been online, but it’s pretty fun to watch. After all, the kid in the driver’s seat is pretty confident, even flashing a peace sign as he rolls up the window in his daddy’s Lamborghini. Shortly thereafter, he rolls into position and next thing you know he’s on his way down the track giving the Corvette a piece of his mind. Now, one could argue that it’s not hard to press the gas and hold the wheel straight, but give the little guy credit – he’s hardly tall enough to see over the wheel. And, after all, he’s racing a Lambo against a Vette, and giving it the business all at the age of 11.

The 2018 Chevy Corvette Could Come With a Surprise Under the Hood
The upcoming Corvette ZR-1 has been a major topic among performance and Chevy enthusiasts alike, and has been rumored and desired since the C7 hit dealerships a few years ago. Up until now, however, we’ve gotten very little official information but have seen the beast testing in the wild in mixed colors with lots or padding and camo. We have learned from leaked documents that it will, indeed, have a midship layout and a brand-new engine, but information about said engine has been rather elusive. All that has changed thanks to a leaked document on GM’s service website. The document has since been removed, but not before we’ve all taken in the knowledge that the new ZR-1, as well as the C8 Corvette, will get a naturally aspirated, DOHC, 6.2-liter V-8 that is being called the LT5.
As you’ll see in the document below, the listing in the leaked document reads “ENGINE GAS CYL, 6.2:, SIDI,DOHC,VVT,ALUM,GM. So, out of all that, we know that it will be a dual-overhead-cam unit – the first in a corvette since 1995 – and will make use of variable valve timing, and will have an aluminum block and heads. Of course, it’s not all gravy, as the listing also raises some concerns. After all, this engine is naturally aspirated, and that leads some into a serious state of doubt. See, the current 6.2-liter in the Corvette Z06 pumps out 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, but it’s only able to do so with a supercharger in tow.
So, with the ZR1 expected to have more power than the Z06 – some are saying as much as 750 horsepower – the concept of the LT5 being a naturally aspirated engine is stirring up come skepticism. It’s not impossible, but it is improbable and illogical to get that kind of power out of a naturally aspirated V-8. But, it could all work out in the end. After all, there’s just something about a large and powerful, naturally aspirated V-8 that tickles the fancy of every self-respecting American.

Mechanical Carnage: Corvette Meets an Untimely Death
It was back in the depths of the 2009 Great Rescission when the U.S. Government launched the Car Allowance Rebate System, better known as the Cash for Clunkers program. Some $4 billion worth of government money was allocated for new-car purchases for folks trading “inefficient” vehicles. Sadly, a slew of rather nice cars and trucks met their demise through the program.
This fourth-generation Corvette is a prime example. It looks fairly clean, with no noticeable body damage and a well-running 5.7-liter V-8. A deep detailing job and a new set of tires seems to be all this Vette needs.
However, its owner traded the Vette in for $3,500 worth of government rebates on a new car, leaving the Vette to meet an early demise at the hands of sodium silicate. Yep, the “magical elixir” poured into the small block’s oil sump is designed to kill the engine. The solution turns into a glass-like substance when heated up, seizing the engine and destroying all the internal components for good. With a dead heart, these cars were unceremoniously sent to scrap yards for recycling. That microwave you bought in 2010 might just have Vette metal in it.
If you want to spook yourself out, just watch the video as this poor V-8 sings its last song. Searching YouTube for Cash for Clunker videos turns up a slew of similarly gruesome mechanical carnage. It’s such a shame so many nice cars were so needlessly destroyed.
2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Caught Testing In Michigan
The highly-anticipated Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, rumored to hit the streets by 2018, has been spotted roaming the streets of Michigan. Wearing heavy camouflage at the front and sporting a big wing atop its decklid, the test car seems to be identical to the one we saw earlier this year. However, we can now see it in action, hear its engine roar, and get a better glimpse of some its features.
The first thing that catches the eye as far as the exterior goes is the massive rear wing. As you may remember, the previous prototype came without the wing, but with two struts sticking out. It turns out that the aerodynamic device will be quite massive. What’s more, the second prototype that shows up behind the first one carries a smaller wing, which could mean that the ZR1 might arrive in two configurations. The smaller wing would be standard, while the larger element could be optional or part of a more expensive, track-oriented package.
More importantly, the coupes are joined by a third, convertible prototype that also sports a rear wing. This could very well mean that Chevy is also preparing a drop-top ZR1. Granted, we haven’t heard any rumors of such a variant, but it wouldn’t be the first time that an automaker manages to keep a vehicle secret closer to launch.
Nothing else seems new from what we’ve already seen on previous test cars, but the ZR1 looks meaner than any other road-going Corvette launched up to this point. It’s engine also has a nice rumble to it at cruising speed. On the other hand, we can’t tell whether the V-8 is supercharged or turbocharged. Word has it the ZR1 will get the twin-turbo V-8 developed for the upcoming, mid-engine Corvette Zora, but we should find out more as the car moves closer to production.

Paralyzed Racer Gets First Semi-Autonomous Driver’s License In The U.S.
Former Indy Racing League race winner Sam Schmidt became quadriplegic in 2000 when he crashed during testing at the Walt Disney World Speedway in Orlando, Florida. The accident caused irreparable damage to his spinal cord, cutting short what was then a promising career. Fast forward to 2016 and Schmidt, the owner of the Verizon IndyCar Series team, is once again in the news, although this time, it’s for all the right reasons.
According to the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles, Schmidt will be the recipient of the country’s first restricted driver’s license for a semi-autonomous vehicle, paving the way for the former racer to drive a car using only his head, breath, and voice commands on state roads. His car of a choice is a heavily modified 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z06 that Arrow Electronics, a Fortune 500 company in Colorado, has been developing specifically for him since 2014.
Obviously, the Corvette doesn’t function like a traditional car. It runs through a headset that the Schmidt will be wearing, which in turn allows the former racer to control the vehicle by blowing into a tube attached to the headset so the car can accelerate. Conversely, inhaling allows Schmidt to control the brakes while moving his head will allow him to steer, thanks in part to four infrared cameras mounted on the Corvette’s dashboard.
Schmidt and Arrow Electronics have already made demonstrations of the car at several high-profile events in the past, including the Indy 500, the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, and the Long Beach Grand Prix. But with the license to drive a semi-autonomous vehicle that he’s about to get from the Nevada DMV, the former racer will have the opportunity to drive the Corvette Stingray, appropriately named SAM, on state roads.
