Now that the redesigned 2015 Ford F-150 is about to wrap up its first year in production, Ford->ke31 has announced a new styling package called the Special Edition Appearance Package for XLT and Lariat trim levels of the aluminum-bodied truck.

The new Special Edition Appearance Package recalls the look of the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor package with its red-and-black hockey-stick decals that wrap around to the rear of the truck. The new appearance package also adds bespoke grilles for the two trim levels, and a special set of 20-inch wheels with Sport written out in red script on each, along one of its six spokes. The XLT trim has a dark anodized grille with black mesh inserts while the upscale Lariat gets the red accents on its dark anodized grille. Black side steps, smoked headlamps, and red sport letterings finish off the exterior upgrades.

Ford didn’t leave the inside for wanting either. The dash gets red French stitching that matches the red leather inserts on the new special edition Alcantara seats. The black leather trim that complements the seats’ red accents also has Sport embossed just below the headrests. Lastly, Ford designers added seatbelts with red accents. The new look certainly pulls in a high-performance feel for the otherwise down-to-business cabin.

Beyond the new Special Edition, the 2016 F-150 also gets an upgraded infotainment system. Gone is the old MyFordTouch, replaced by SYNC 3. The new system is said to be easier to use, offer high-speed performance, and have enhanced voice recognition. The truck also has the new option of Pro Trailer Backup Assist that allows for more intuitive steering control while backing up a trailer.

Two new exterior colors also make their appearance: Shadow Black replaces Tuxedo Black and Lithium Gray replaces Guard Metallic. Ford is also offering a set of 20-inch wheels as a factory option on the base XL trim level. Lastly, fleet customers can now order the 5.0-liter V-8 with the gaseous-fuel prep package in order to run off Compressed Natural Gas or Liquid Propane.

Trucks have become the vehicle of choice to make personal statements, and Ford is happy to oblige those customers looking for more style on their rigs right from the factory. The new exterior graphics matched with the (very cool) Alcantara seats with contrasting red stitching does take the F-150->ke423 to a new level aesthetically. And from the number of previous-generation F-150s I see wearing the predecessor to this graphics package, I say Ford won’t have any trouble selling the upgraded Sport Appearance Package on the 2016 model.
