There’s some interesting choices here.

The sixth-generation Mustang is a pretty big deal. It was introduced for 2015 and was the most advanced pony to roll out of Ford’s stable to date. The biggest highlights included the introduction of the EcoBoost four-cylinder – the first four-cylinder to be offered in the ‘Stang for a while – and a new independent rear suspension system, a first since the car was first introduced back in 1964. After just a couple of years on the market, Ford realized it’s EcoBoost drivetrain was a real winner, and eventually dropped the base V-6, leaving just the 310-horsepower EcoBoost and the 435-horsepower Coyote V-8. For 2018, Ford recently announced that the line-lock feature from the GT track package will now come standard across the line, but now we’re finally getting a look at the order guide companion for the first time, and there are quite a few options to talk about.

All told, there are three different packages available for the EcoBoost and GT models: a performance package, a black accent package, and a new Carbon Sport interior package – essentially letting you get a little bit of that supercar feel inside your new pony. But, there’s a lot of little things to cover in this companion guide, so let’s take a closer look at what you can order before you get to the dealer.

The Basics

The first page of the companion guide is pretty thin, but it offers up two different items. First, you can get the car cover with the GT350 logo and, for the first time, Ford is now offering rubber floor liners with the Pony logo prominently displayed in the middle – definitely ideal if you live in a predominantly wet area or are one of those people who like to drive their Mustangs in the winter (good on you, by the way!)

The EcoBoost Premium Pony Package

So, on top of all the basics that come along with the standard EcoBoost, this package will get you a number of extras or replacements to really spruce things up. This package, known by order code 54P, adds on a unique bright upper grille, 19-inch aluminum wheels, chrome beltline and window surround on fastback models, tri-bar pony badge and carpeted floor mats with the pony logo. You also get those cool looking strips down along the side skirts, but the color depends on the base color of the car.

Ebony stripes are available in the following exterior colors:

  • Oxford White
  • Triple Yellow Tri-Coat
  • Orange Fury Metallic Tri-coat,
  • Race Red,
  • Ruby Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat
  • Kona Blue
  • Lightning Blue
  • Ingot Silver
  • Magnetic

White stripes are available in the following exterior colors:

  • Orange Fury Metallic Tri-coat
  • Race Red
  • Ruby Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat
  • Royal Crimson Metallic Tinted Clearcoat
  • Kona Blue
  • Magnetic
  • Shadow Black

EcoBoost Wheel and Stripe Package

Known as order code 60W, this package is basically a lesser version of the previous package. That only includes 18-inch, machine-faced aluminum wheels with painted pockets and the graphic stripes just below the belt line as opposed to down below on the side skirts. This package, however, comes with silver or ebony colored stripes. As with the package above, the Ebony stripes are available in the following exterior colors:

  • Oxford White
  • Triple Yellow Tri-Coat
  • Orange Fury Metallic Tri-coat,
  • Race Red,
  • Ruby Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat
  • Kona Blue
  • Lightning Blue
  • Ingot Silver
  • Magnetic

If you want the silver stripes, which are actually a little more appealing than the white stripes offered with the previous package, you’ll need to pick from one of the following exterior colors:

  • Triple Yellow Tri-Coat
  • Orange Fury Metallic Tri-Coat
  • Race Red
  • Ruby Metallic Tinted Clearcoat
  • Royal Crimson Metallic Tinted Clearcoat
  • Kona Blue
  • Lightning Blue
  • Ingot Silver
  • Magnetic
  • Shadow Black

EcoBoost Performance Package

If you’re going to order yourself a 2.3-liter EcoBoost Mustang, then you want to make sure you mark off order code 67E, better known as the EcoBoost Performance Pack. This pack combines a set of 19 x 9-inch aluminum wheels (finished in Ebony Black) with a set of 255/40-series summer-only tires. Fastback models get a performance rear spoiler for better aerodynamics, and all models get a larger rear sway bar and specific tuning for the chassis, stability control, EPAS, and anti-lock braking systems. In addition, the strut tower braces get a healthy dose of black paint for a cleaner look, while the cooling system gets a larger radiator to keep things nice and cool under heavy throttle and high load situations. Finally, the interior gets a pair of gauges for monitoring oil pressure and vacuum, while the instrument panel is upgraded to an “Engine Spun” aluminum unit.

Exterior color options remain the same across the board, but the interior page of your order form will have a few extra selections that we haven’t seen yet. On the cloth upholstery front, you can get Dark Ceramic cloth or Ebony cloth. On the leather side of things, you can choose from Ceramic leather trim or Tan leather. That’s not all, though. There’s a selection of Ebony leather trim, ebony leather upholstery, Showstopper red leather or Midnight Blue, all of which can be has from Recaro as well – now that’s what you call a list of options.

GT Performance Package

Of course, some of us just can’t justify owning a pony car that has anything less than eight cylinders of contained explosion goodness. For us, out No. 1 package is the GT Performance Package, also known as order code 67G. This package comes with four huge highlights that include a performance rear wing on fastback models to go with 19-inch wheels that measure nine inches wide up front and 9.5 inches out back. They come wrapped in 255/40-series tires up front or 275/40-series tires out back. These are summer only tires, so once temperatures start to drop below that 50-degree mark, you better change em up for your winter wheels for braving the colder season with your GT. On top of this, it gets a few other familiar upgrades from the other EcoBoost packages that include:

  • Larger rear sway bar
  • Specific tuning for ABS, EPAS stability control, and chassis systems
  • Gauges for vacuum and oil pressure
  • “Engine Spun” aluminum instrument panel.
  • Larger radiator

In addition to these, this package gets a few unique add-ons, as well. First off, it gets a new strut tower brace and K-brace (also known as K-member) to go with heavy duty front springs and Brembo six-piston brakes up front with larger rotors to help kill all that furious momentum once you really get her going. Interior and exterior color options for this package are the same as the aforementioned EcoBoost Performance Package.

The Black Accent Package

This package is pretty self-explanatory – You simply get black accents, which will naturally look great against a red base color. However, it should be noted that this package requires having a painted black roof, so if you’re hoping to get it, make sure to check off that option as you go through your order form. Included in the package are 19-inch Ebony Black aluminum wheels black, blade-style rear spoiler, and black badging. For EcoBoost models, you get the Pony logo on the front and rear. For GT models, you get the Pony logo up front, GT logo in the rear, and 5.0 logo on the sides. It’s an attractive little package, and kudos to Ford for doing this as a package and not some stupid special edition down the road.

Carbon Sport Interior Package

This is a completely new package for 2018, and it kind of brings a bit of supercar luxury into the Mustang in that you get some pretty healthy dosing of carbon fiber. And, when paired with the black interior it’s just to die for. It’s known officially as order code 68C, and swaps out the instrument panel and shifter knob with true-to-life carbon fiber, while the sweats are swapped out for a pair of ebony, leather-trimmed seats with Alcantara inserts that match the Alcantara inserts on the door trims.

Conclusion

So, what do you think of these various packages? Do any stick out to you? Which ones would you choose for your 2018 Mustang? Personally, I’d probably go with the GT Performance Package and that Carbon Fiber package, but I’m a bit of a lush, and I certainly wouldn’t be able to sign off on a Mustang if it didn’t have the 5.0, but that’s just me. Tell us what you think in the comments section below.
