BMW just dropped the top on its supreme two-door with the official reveal of the new 2019 8 Series Convertible. Both a diesel-powered model and high-powered gas-drinking M model are on offer, and both come stuffed to the gills with tech for infotainment, convenience, and safety.

How Does It Look?

However, the metal roof was swapped for a new soft-folding fabric replacement with fully electric operation. The open/close process takes 15 seconds to complete, and can be activated at speeds up to 31 mph.

The top is finished in either Black or Anthracite Silver, while further down on the body, you’ll find Adaptive LED headlights and LED taillights as standard. BMW’s Laserlights come as an available option.

What’s Under The Hood?

Both variants come equipped with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission and AWD grip.

Go for the gas-powered model, and you’ll see 60 mph in 3.9 seconds, while the diesel does the same sprint in 5.2 seconds.

Will It Corner?

The 8 Series Convertible also gets loads of handling goodies, such as Adaptive M suspension, Integral Active Steering, and the M Sport differential.

An M Sport Package is offered with the less-sporty diesel engine option, throwing in new fascia bits, new side skirts, a new rear apron, and 19-inch wheels. The Package also ups the ante with M Sport brakes, while the interior is decked out with an M Sport leather steering wheel and illuminated door sills.

What’s It Like In The Cabin?

Infotainment options include a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround stereo, wireless phone charing, active seat ventilation, and an Automatic Soft Close door function.

Driver assists are plentiful, and include standouts like Collision Warning with Pedestrian Warning and City Braking function, Lane Departure Warning, Rear Collision Warning, and Parking Assistant

Final touches include a nifty heads-up display and a digital gauge cluster.

When Can I Get One?

The 2019 BMW 8 Series Convertible will see a market launch in March of 2019.

Pricing starts at $122,395.
