If you want tall-riding speed and practicality from Germany, then the BMW X3 M is certainly a solid choice. The Bavarians are cooking up a new model for the 2020 model year, and now, we know exactly what it’ll look like thanks to this fresh set of spy shots!

Front Three Quarters In Its Full Glory

We’ve known Bimmer had a new X3 M in the works for a while now, first catching a glimpse last September when it ran at the Nürburgring for a race in the popular DTM series.

Now, however, we’re getting a look at it minus all the camouflage thanks to a s series of leaked images showing off the performance crossover’s welcome screen.

Highlights include a set of large kidney grilles. We also see a set of black trim outlines and geometric lower intakes set with fin-like lower blade elements. Up top, there daytime running lights get a half-hexagonal shape. The new bumper is also set with a honeycomb mesh insert for the lower intake element.

Moving to the sides, the 2020 BMW X3 M comes equipped with a unique Y-shaped wheel design. Vents can be found just behind the front fenders, and there are reshaped side skirts as well. Higher up, the side view mirrors get a more aerodynamic shape, while the roofline is smoothed out thanks to a roof-rail delete.

And while these spy shots don’t show it, we also expect a reshaped rear end, complete with a new spoiler, a new diffuser element, and quad exhaust tips.

Interestingly, the spy shots also include a reveal of the X3 M’s digital gauges. Interestingly, the speedometer tops out at over 200 mph, but that’s obviously just for show.

Under the hood, the X3 M is expected to come with the new S58 (S58B30T0) engine package, Bimmer’s latest turbocharged six-cylinder. The S58 will also appear in the as-of-yet unreleased G80 M3 and G82 M4. Output in the crossover is likely to top 450 horsepower, but could range as high as 475 ponies. An eight-speed automatic and xDrive AWD will put it to the ground.

When it finally drops, look forward to available options like a sport suspension package and an active M differential.

There are even rumors that a “competition vehicle” will makes its appearance sometime in the future.

Production is slated to kick off later this year.
