We’ve had this talk before. If you had to choose between a 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 and the new and hot 2020 Chevrolet C8 Corvette, which one would be your poison?

It’s a tough call this one, right? Well, this video is not going to make things easier for you because it pits both performance cars on a circuit from the average driver’s perspective and as far as that is concerned, you’ll be surprised at just how evenly match these speed machines really are despite their very different natures.

Muscle car meets sports car and they’re both winners

Recently we brought you a video that showed how the C8 Corvette and the GT500 fare against each other on the track as far as pure driving feel is concerned.

This time around, the same YouTuber going by the name of Speed Phenom wants to show us which one is faster on a twisty course. So instead of focusing on what each car has to transmit to the driver, he’s going into full hot lap mode on both the Vette and the Shelby to see which is faster.

Remember, the cars in question could not be any more different when looked at side by side. The GT500 is front-engined and rear-wheel-driven, while the C8 is mid-engined and also rear-wheel-driven.

The GT500 hides a 5.2-liter supercharged V-8 under the hood with 760 horsepower and 625 pound-feet of torque on top, while the C8 makes do with a naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter V-8 that cranks out 490 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of twist.

Then there’s the stance of each car. The C8 sits closer to the ground and flaunts a more planted, ready-to-pounce shape as well as more downforce, while the Shelby flaunts a big grille that sits quite high above the ground and is rather more imposing than downright sporty.

So, with that in mind, head to the video below. You’ll be surprised at how well a base Corvette can perform in front of the baddest Mustang ever made and on the flip side, it’s impressive to see a front-engine, heavy muscle car holding its own against a lighter, mid-engine Corvette on a twisty track. Ask for our humble two cents and we’d take both home, thank you very much.
