The 2020 Lotus Evija has been intensively covered online and then covered some more. Still, there are some aspects of the hypercar that won’t make themselves available to the public. As in, only a future owner will get to enjoy and the car’s configurator paves the way for what looks like a very rewarding acquisition process. Allow us to explain.

You’re not paying for an object, but for an entire experience

Lotus is supposed to kick off Evija production later this year. The said platform is, in essence, a touchscreen configurator backed up by an “ultra-powerful graphics processor” and gaming software.

Why the abundance in hardware? Lotus says it’s to create “stunning high-definition photo-realistic images and animations.” OK, but with what purpose? With this setup, the customer can build and tweak the car from the ground up, as well as inspect and view it from basically every angle, inside and out.

What’s more, owners can place their cars in various environments via ray-tracing to see how factors like light intensity and angle, for example, change the color of selected body paint. Speaking of which, with the announcement of this high-tech configurator, Lotus is also lettings us know that the Evija will be available in three new colors, namely Atomic Red, Solaris Yellow, and Carbon Black.

Nevermind the configurator, here come the gifts!

Throughout the build and configuration process, customers will also receive “Lotus unique gifts” that will add even more to the Evija’s exclusive nature. As you most likely know by now, Lotus plans to assemble just 130 Evijas. To top everything off, each owner is set to receive a build book that captures various moments from the assembly process.

The 1,972-horsepower all-electric Lotus Evija will also push 1,700 Newton-meters of torque (1,254 pound-feet) through four independent electric motors fed by a 2,000-kWh battery pack. A weight of 1,680 kilos (3,703 pounds) makes the Evija the lightest pure-EV hypercar but it also lets it zap from 0 to 100 kph (62 mph) in under three seconds to a top speed of over 320 kph (200 mph).
