Porsche has revealed its top-of-the-range SUV offerings, in the form of the new 2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid and 2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid Coupe. These are not only the most powerful Cayenne models ever, but also the quickest too. They also come pretty close to fully loaded in terms of optional extras and, since both are hybrids, the fact that their battery pack is some 30 percent larger than that of any electrified Cayenne previously sold, the extra all-electric range is also welcome.
Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid - How is it different?
You can easily tell them apart from other Cayenne Turbo models by the acid green color around their badges and brake calipers. This splash of color makes these Turbo S E-Hybrid models instantly noticeable, so if you spot one at a set of traffic lights, you might want to think twice about racing it off the line. Why? Well, with a combined power output of 670 horsepower (679 PS) and 900 Nm (663 pound-feet) plus all-wheel drive, both the regular SUV and the Coupé sprint to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.6 seconds, or almost as quickly as a a Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat.
The main source for this impressive performance is a 4.0-liter V8 with twin-turbos that on its own makes 541 horsepower (550 PS).
It is aided by a 134-horsepower (138 PS) electric motor located between the internal combustion engine and the eight-speed automatic transmission. It draws juice from a 14.1 kWh battery pack that grants the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid an electric-only range of 40 km (25 miles) before the V-8 kicks in as a generator.
Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid - Tell me more about performance
Top speed for both the normal SUV and the Coupé is electronically limited to 183 mph (295 km/h) and this puts the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid very close to the top of the tables of the fastest SUVs in the world. They’re not quite as fast flat out as the Bentley Bentayga W12 (187 mph or 301 km/h) or the Lamborghini Urus (190 mph or 305.8 km/h) and they’re almost matched by the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio (177 mph or 284 km/h) and Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Trackhawk (180 mph or 289.7 km/h).
In terms of equipment, any Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid comes very well equipped with standard amenities such as 18-way-adjustable Adaptive Sport Seats, and in the case of the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid Coupé, the rear bench is replaced by two individual bucket seats as a no-cost option if the buyer desires it. Other bits of kit included as standard are ceramic composite brakes, Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV+) and the Sport Chrono Package, as well as 21-inch AeroDesign wheels complimented by body-colored wheel arch extensions.
You can, obviously, add more when you spec yours, though. Rear-wheel steering, the raspy sports exhaust, an on-board fast charger that tops up the battery pack in 2.4 hours, according to the manufacturer, as well as the Lightweight Sport Package can also be specified.
The latter swaps out the standard roof panel for one made of carbon fiber, it gives the Cayenne 22-inch GT Design wheels and it actually includes packs that are also available separately, such as the Sport Design Package, the Carbon Interior Package, heated, Alcantara-clad sports steering wheel, Alcantara headliner and plenty of carbon fiber bits of trim both inside and out.
Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid Price
As you can imagine, though, all of these bring up the cost of the vehicle quite dramatically. Porsche will charge you at least $161,900 for the regular 2020 Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid or $164,400 for the 2020 Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid Coupe. Should you want the Cayenne Coupe hybrid experience, but at a lower cost, Porsche also added the Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupe to the range and that is far cheaper than the other two new additions, with a price that kicks off at $86,400. Prices don’t include the $1,350 delivery and handling fee.
