BMW has finally let the cat out of the bag, sort of. The cat being the new M5 CS, which is yet to be unveiled in full but, hey, at least it sheds some spec sheet secrets. And yeah, they’re of the juicy variety.

As things stand right now, the 2021 BMW M5 CS is going to pack 626 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque coming from a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8.

This might not sound like much of an increase, but the M5 is already a supercar-grade sedan as far as performance goes and as we all know, the CS badge involves a lighter frame. According to Car and Driver, the 2021 M5 CS, as it joins the likes of M2, M3, and M4 CS, will be 154 pounds lighter than the Competition model.

Power should go to all four wheels via BMW’s M xDrive setup, but it can also mimic the behavior of a rear-wheel-drive configuration. Expect a drift mode as well as Munich’s ZF-sourced eight-speed Steptronic transmission.

We can’t tell you more on 0-60 times, but the M5 Competition needs 3.1 seconds to clear that interval, so the CS might be a tad quicker - not that you'll necessarily feel it behind the wheel. Top speed should go up to 190 mph.

The M5 CS will also sport carbon-fiber bucket seats à la M3 and M4, carbon-ceramic brakes with red calipers that bite into huge rotors as well as the bronze treatment on the grille and wheels to match the motorsport-style yellow headlights.

That’s all we can report for now, but as a general rule, don’t expect a spartan interior with deleted bits and bobs as 5 Series and subsequently M5 customers go for these cars to get more luxury then they would in 2er or a 3er, albeit M badge-wearing ones.

There’s also no word on pricing, but for good measure, know that the 2021 BMW M5 Competition starts a $111,100 and the CS will naturally cost more. By how much it remains to be seen. A debut should consume in January 2021, so we’ll know more soon enough.
