If the XLP name sounds familiar to you it is because just recently Brabus announced two 800 Adventure XLP packages: one Superblack and one Superwhite. Both are based on the G63 AMG, both deliver 800 horsepower and 737 pound-feet of torque, and both are priced at way over €700,000.

Now the XLP name is back as part of a new 900 XLP "One of ten" package, still based on the G63 AMG, but this time the output goes up to an even more impressive 900 horsepower!

900 Horsepower Doesn't Come Easy, Even in an AMG G63

From the factory, the AMG G63 SUV is powered by a 4.0-liter, Biturbo V-8 engine that delivers 577 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. In the previous 800 Adventure XLP packages, the output was increased to "only" 800 horsepower and 737 pound-feet of torque mainly because the displacement didn't change. But with the new 900 XLP packages, the displacement goes from 4.0-liters to 4.5-liters. A similar move to what we have seen in the recently launched Crawler. In fact, the latter, like the new 900 XLP has the same engine as the famous Rocket 900 package.

The modified engine includes a new cylinder bore with the capacity increased to 84 millimeters (3.3 in) and of course larger forged pistons. There are also precision-balanced special piston rods and a special billet crankshaft with a stroke of 100 millimeters (3.9 in). The engine is also equipped with specially developed high-pressure pumps with an increased delivery rate, a modified air filter system, and an upgraded forced induction system. The ECU was modified, and the final touch is a new high-performance exhaust system featuring high-performance metal catalysts, special gasoline particulate filters, and two rear mufflers.

After all these changes, the V-8 now delivers an impressive 900 horsepower at 6,200 RPM and 774 pound-feet of torque. As a result, the sprint from 0 to 60 mph goes down to 4.4 seconds, but top speed remains electronically limited to 130 mph.

The G63 Truck that Mercedes-AMG Won't Build

Like with the other two XLP packages the most challenging thing was to transform the SUV into a truck. It all started by stretching the wheelbase by 50 centimeters (20 inches) and adding a new pickup bed that made the vehicle 68.9 centimeters (27.1 inches) longer than a standard G63. The truck also received carbon-fiber fender flares fitted with additional wheel arches - a change that made it 11.6 centimeters (4.6 in) wider than a stock G-Class. Also, the ground clearance was raised so that the XLP 900 sits 49 centimeters (19.2 inches) above the ground - or about 10 inches higher than the standard G63.

Other than the increased dimensions, the 900 XLP is also equipped with a carbon-fiber widebody kit that gives it a unique look. Up front, there is an exposed-carbon radiator grille with Brabus logo, a new bumper, and a vented hood. Huge air intakes also help keep the engine cooler. As an option, customers can also get power-retractable steps, while a roof rack and the exposed-carbon wind deflector with four auxiliary LED lights above the windshield complete the picture.

The car rides on a new set of 22-inch Monoblock Z HD wheels wrapped in Pirelli Scorpion ATR all-terrain tires of size 325/55 R 22. In the press pictures, they are finished ‘Gunmetal Black’ and adorned with red pinstripes. Brabus is also offering a specially designed Ride Control coilover suspension that allows the driver to control the damper settings using the standard Dynamic Select suspension adjustment feature of the current Mercedes G-Class.

Changes will also be offered inside, too. The first unit is offered with the finest "Mondial Black" leather adorned with "Jet Black" piping and black stitching. The black leather creates a very cool contrast with the "Rocket Red" finish used for all the plastic parts in the interior. They are all combined with an extensive carbon package and tailor-made aluminum components.

Excuse Me... Can I Borrow $700,000?

The new Brabus 900 XLP "One of Ten" is "a lot cheaper" than the other two XLP versions: "just" €658,625 - or about $687,500 at the current exchange rates. As its name suggests, only 10 units will be offered.
