This is your first look at the supremely good-looking Genesis G90 flagship luxury sedan

LISTEN 03:21

The Genesis G90 first went on sale in the United States for the 2017 model year, which means that the flagship luxury sedan is nearly five years old. As such, an all-new model is definitely in order, and Genesis gives us a glimpse of the G90’s successor.

As with all Genesis models, the G90 wears the brand’s current ’Athletic Elegance’ design language, but its execution in the all-new G90 is probably one of their best yet. Indeed, the all-new G90 is one of the finest-looking flagship luxury sedans in a long time. It draws a bit of inspiration from the Genesis X Concept, which is one of the finest looking design concepts we’ve seen in a long time.

Upfront, some of its design highlights include a long hood with short front overhangs, a Crest Grille with two ’G-Matrix’ patterns layered on top of each other, and slim Two-Line headlights that give the G90 a very assertive face.

On the side, the clamshell hood noticeably reduces the number of panel gaps, giving the G90 a cleaner look. The low-slung stance and long body are quite reminiscent of the upcoming BMW 7 Series, at least based on that car’s spy shots. Lastly, the door handles are flushed onto the body, though Genesis did not confirm how the door handles work.

And then moving towards its rear end, the LED taillights are unlike the Two-Line motif that current Genesis models utilize. Instead, there are two LED light bars spanning the G90’s width, and this is on top of the main taillight clusters.

Genesis has not yet revealed the interior of the G90, nor its dimensions and features. They did confirm, however, that the G90 will come in standard and long-wheelbase versions, with the latter being 190 mm (7.5 inches) longer compared to the standard model.

No powertrain details have been unveiled as of the moment. For reference, the outgoing Genesis G90 comes in three engine options. The base option is a non-turbo 3.8-liter V6 gasoline engine that produces 311 horsepower and 397 lb-ft of torque, while the mid-tier option is a 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 that produces 365 horsepower and 379 lb-ft of torque. The top-tier engine choice is a 5.0-liter non-turbo V8 that produces 419 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed automatic driving the rear wheels comes as standard, while all-wheel drive (AWD) is an optional extra.
