by Alina Moore, onSubaru has announced the new "BRZ Cup Car Basic" - a special BRZ built by STi and only for track use. It will race in the upcoming Toyota Gazoo Racing GR86 / BRZ Cup - a new racing series for 2022 with five different races. The first one will take place on July 16-17, 2022 at the Fuji Speedway.
This special BRZ is priced at 3,338,500 Japanese Yen (almost $29,000 at the current exchange rates) and it is pretty much our dream BRZ.

What makes the Subaru BRZ Cup Car Basic special?
Since this is a car built especially for track use, most of the changes were done on the interior.
First of all the side curtain airbags were removed, and instead, the car was secured by a roll cage and a six-point seatbelt for the driver.
It also comes with special floor mats.
Under the hood, the car retains the same naturally aspirated, 2.4-liter boxer engine that delivers a total of 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. While no changes were made to the final power output, the engine did receive an oil cooler - a necessary update required for track use. The car is also equipped with a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential with added fins for improved cooling.
On the exterior, the only update is a new set of black-finished, 16-inch steel wheels.
The car can be ordered in seven different colors, but our favorite is, of course, the WR blue pearl. If you want something different, you can also choose between Ignition Red, Sapphire Blue Pearl, Crystal White Pearl, Ice Silver Metallic, Magnetite Gray Metallic, or Crystal Black Silica.
