The Fisker Ocean made its official debut, at the 2021 LA Auto show. However, a sneak peek of the all-electric SUV was given yesterday evening at Manhattan Beach (where Fisker is headquartered) in LA. Considering that vehicle is called Ocean, it was only fitting to have the stunning pacific ocean as the backdrop for this reveal.

Overview

We had none other than Fisker Inc. CEO, Henrik Fisker himself joined by the Mayor of Manhattan Beach, Hildy Stern at yesterdays event. She was ecstatic to have Fisker as a local business. Mr.Fisker then gave a brief on how he actually drew inspiration for the company’s logo while watching the sunset at Manhattan beach.

This was in fact only a quick preview of the car, with the official premiere scheduled for today at the LA Auto Show. Well, the wait is over as the Fisker Ocean finally debuts with more technical aspects of the vehicle like the range, the power, the interior, and some exclusive world firsts, which Fisker says they’ve filed patents for.

“Our mission is to create the world’s most innovative and sustainable vehicles that are also affordable, and it all starts with the Fisker Ocean as we fully embrace a clean future for all,” Fisker said, as he kicked off the first manufacturer event of the show>

Fisker’s all-electric SUV is finally here

The wraps were taken off and the design of the production vehicle has thankfully stayed true to the Fisker Ocean Concept car that debuted last year. Finished in a futuristic silver, you can see that the same minimalistic design with the clean lines has been carried over.

You have thin lighting elements at both ends of the SUV and a pronounced haunch around the rear window, below the C pillar, that juts up adding more muscle. Overall, the design remains boxy, but it somehow embodies some truly futuristic styling, which is refreshing.

The first 5000 vehicles off the line will be dubbed the Fisker Ocean One top spec models priced at $68,999. There will four trims on offer and up to 14 color options to choose from. The base trim (front wheel drive) features a single motor setup that produces 275 horsepower with two wheel drive and a range of 250 miles (features LFB batteries).

The higher trim levels will feature dual motors and all wheel drive feature a bigger battery pack taking the range to +350 miles (features NMC batteries). The top of the line Extreme trim produces 550 horsepower, with a 0-60 time of 3.6 seconds. There's also torque vectoring on offer.

Stand Out Features Fisker Ocean

The standout feature by far though is the unique swiveling screen in the interior, which was co-develpoed with iPhone maker, Foxconn. Patents have been filed for this technology. Apart from this, the luxury interior is a standout and is made from sustainable and recycled materials. Free form technology was used to design the seamless seats in the vehicle.

Provided you live in a sunny place like California, and get the top spec model, the solar roof can add up to 1500 miles to the range of the vehcile. The solar roof is a feature that featured on the old Karma as well. Speaking of the sunshine state, there's a feature on the new Ocean dubbed Califonia mode, that lowers all the windows including the rear quarter windows and the rear window on the tail gate.

Conclusion

The 2023 Fisker Ocean will head to production at Magna Steer’s Graz facility in Austria by mid-November 2022. Starting at $37,499 without government incentives (29,999, if taken into consideration), the Fisker Ocean undercuts both the Tesla Model Y and the Ford Mustang Mach-E. Fisker’s main intent is to make electric vehicles more accessible, and at such an attractive price, it looks like it might just be able to democratise EVs.
