Our spy photographers caught the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 6 out for a new testing session of the streets of Germany. It looks like Hyundai engineers are busy testing the prototype in normal road conditions, before sending it to Scandinavia for winter testing under extreme cold conditions.

The production version Ioniq 6 will be inspired by the Prophecy concept unveiled back in 2020 and it will be the second model from a line of Ioniq-branded electric cars, after the recently launched Ioniq 5. Hyundai is also working on a Ioniq 7 SUV, but that should arrive a lot later.

While you can see a lot of the Prophecy line in the prototype caught testing, do not expect the Ioniq 6 to be as wild as the concept car. You should expect a lot of tweaks that will make it road-legal. For example, the cameras in the concept were replaced by regular mirrors, while the roofline has been raised to offer more interior room. And, since we mentioned the interior, do not expect it to also be inspired by the concept. Instead, you should see an interior quite similar to the Ioniq 5.

The same will happen with the powertrain: it will be borrowed from the Ioniq 5. In here customers can choose between two different battery packs – 58 kWh and 72.6 kWh and single- or dual-motor setup.

The new Ioniq 6 is expected to be launched in early 2023 and it should be around $10k more expensive than the Ioniq 5.
