At the beginning of April, the next Porsche 911 Safari was seen taking part in its first testing session at the Nürburgring race track. Now, two weeks later the sports car is back at the ring for some more testing.

In fact, some previous rumors suggest that the model could be called 911 Dakar, according to an Instagram post made by Walter Röhrl himself.

Porsche used the Safari name back in 2012 when it created the 911 Vision Safari concept. However, the concept was kept hidden from us until November 2020, when it unveiled numerous never-seen-before show cars and designs. Also, do not expect the 911 Safari, or Dakar, to have anything in common with the Singer ACS. It will be just a regular 911 with a raised suspension and some mechanical updates.

When compared to a regular 911, the Safari version will feature different front and rear bumpers, new air intakes in the engine hood, and wider side sills. The exhaust system also has different end pipes. In the model, you can also spot a small rear wing - similar to some of the non-turbo 911 models.

As for the engine, it is believed, that the 911 Safari will be offered with the same engine as the 911 Carrera 4S: a twin-turbo, 3.0-liter flat-six that delivers a total of 444 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque. When equipped with the PDK transmission, the 4S goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds, but we expect the 911 Dakar to be a tad slower - maybe in the 3.5 seconds region.

Expect the new 911 Safari to be unveiled before the end of 2022.
