When a batch of spy shots->ke166 from our trusty paparazzi hits our inbox, we usually get photos of the latest mule or prototype of a future car.->ke2048 This time around, however, we received a special treat in the form of four rare Mercedes-McLaren supercars->ke177 worth in excess of $3 million. Specifically, our spy photographers spotted three SLR Stirling Moss cars and an SLR Roadster 722 S in one place. There's no info as to how these gorgeous supercars got together, but it looks like an owner's meeting of some sort. And given these two models were built in very limited quantities, this is a rare occurrence.

As a refresher, the SLR Stirling Moss and the Roadster 772 S, both based on the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren,->ke566 were launched in 2009. Inspired by the classic 300 SLR race car,->ke148 the Stirling Moss was dedicated to the famed Scottish driver and featured a supercharged V-8 engine rated at 640 horsepower. All 75 units were offered only to SLR owners. The Roadster 722 S, also built to honor Stirling Moss, was a limited edition of the 722 coupe. Production was limited to only 150 examples, which were sold to carefully selected customers.

Considering the SLR Stirling Moss sold for over $800,000 and the Roadster 722 S fetched at least $500,000 at launch, the pack of Mercs->ke187 you're looking at was worth more than $3 million back in 2009, and likely a lot more six years later.

Why it matters

Given these type of cars are very rare and expensive, it's safe to assume most of them spend a lot of their time in fancy garages alongside other collectibles. That said, it's quite refreshing to see them stretching their wheels in the wild, although they're definitely not getting as much road time as they should.
