Audi’s incoming e-tron GT, a car that’s been developed side by side with Porsche’s Taycan, is slated for a debut next year. Therefore, the 2021 e-tron GT will share the same 800-volt electric architecture like the Taycan, and previous rumors tipped it to produce in the region of 590 horsepower.

A new report from AutoExpress, however, speaks about a power output of around 700 horsepower. Could this be unlocked via a high-spec model sitting at the very top of the e-tron GT range? It's possible, but we’re still waiting to hear more from Audi on that front.

Taycan’s brother from another mother

AutoExpress’ report talks about two e-tron GT versions. The base one and the hotter RS-badged model. Both of them will use the Taycan’s underpinnings, but with three electric motors instead of two, for the ability to perform controlled drifts, as per Audi’s literature.

The same outlet believes the RS version is in line to receive a AutoExpress}. It’s also this version that would pack as much as 700 horsepower, which is pretty doable given that the Taycan Turbo S produces 751 horsepower.

Translated into road performance, the Audi e-tron GT RS will need about95-kWh battery pack.

AutoExpress also estimates that a maximum range of 250 miles on a single full charge should be expected from the performance EV. And since it shares bits and bobs with the Taycan, it would also support 270-kW fast charging.

We don’t know yet what the car’s interior will look like, but space-wise, it should be on par with the Taycan. On top of that, expect Audi to throw it its best game when it comes to material quality and design, free of any sort of compromise.

Audi will assemble the e-tron GT at its Böllinger-Höfe plant in Neckarsulm, next to the R8 supercar.
