Both carry twin-turbocharged V-8 engines that produce 710 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque. Both have seven-speed dual-clutch transmissions. Both are rear-wheel drive. With all these numbers and features nearly identical, the question begs: which of the two is faster in a drag race?

That type of race should be able to create some differentiation between the two, right? YouTuber 888MF sought to find an answer, and like very few people in the world, he was able to bring a 720S and an F8 Tributo to an empty stretch of road for an old-fashion drag race. Who’s the faster of the two?

Are the two supercars identical?

No, they’re not completely identical, but there are a lot of similarities between the McLaren 720S and the Ferrari F8 Tributo. Both are powered by twin-turbocharged V-8 engines, though the McLaren does boast a slightly higher displacement — 4.0 liters to 3.9 liters — than its rival.

Yes, the numbers are literally identical. Both also utilize seven-speed dual-clutch transmissions and both, as you might expect, are rear-wheel drive. Sure, the two supercars don’t have the same weight, but that’s only because the McLaren, weighing 3,168 pounds, is a mere five pounds heavier than the 3,163-pound Ferrari.

So what happens when you put these two almost-the-same supercars in an empty stretch of road and tell the drivers driving them to push the cars for everything they’ve got? You get an interesting drag race that yields a surprising result. If you’re thinking that the 720S and the F8 Tributo are still bosom buddies after watching this video released by 888MF, then we don’t know what to tell you.

Yes, there was, but we’re not going to spoil it for you. Instead, we’ll say this. The two supercars engaged in two races, and both times, one supercar launched off the start quicker than the other.

888MF even showed the telemetry of both the 720S and the F8 Tributo and it confirmed how the two races went. The supercar that launched off the start quicker posted a faster 0-to-60 mph time — 2.99 seconds compared to 3.07 seconds — but the other supercar made up ground quickly, hitting 100 mph faster — in 5.7 seconds compared to 5.955 seconds — and stretching its lead all the way to the finish line. In the end, the winning supercar covered a quarter-mile in 10.55 seconds at 142.mph, almost two-tenths of a second quicker than its rival, which hit a quarter-mile in 10.69 seconds at 137.9 mph.

Now, which of the two supercars won and which one lost? Watch the video and find out.
