Normally, when an automaker announces a defect on one of its vehicles, it immediately comes with a corresponding recall in order to fix the issue. That is not the case with Mercedes-Benz's recent announcement involving 800,000 vehicles.

This issue was first reported by the German newspaper Bild, which says that letters were sent by Daimler to 800,000 Mercedes-Benz owners. The defect stems from a possible leakage in the coolant pump, which can lead to overheating certain components and increase the risk of fire.

Daimler has confirmed to Reuters that the letters are authentic. Unfortunately, Mercedes-Benz currently does not have the available parts to fix the defective coolant pumps. As such, the letter also says that affected vehicles should be driven in a "prudent manner" all the while lessening the utilization of the vehicles to a minimum.

A recall will immediately be launched once the replacement parts are already available. For now, if you own a Mercedes-Benz GLE/GLS (167 platform), C-Class (205 platform), E-Class (213 platform), S-Class (222 and 223 platform), E-Class Coupe/Convertible (238 platform), GLC (253 platform), CLS (257 platform) and G-Class (463 platform) that's confirmed to be affected by this recall, you may want to drive it only when absolutely necessary. Or you could just be like us average joes and take public transport or an Uber.

This news comes at a time when Mercedes-Benz just came from a high as it unveiled their Vision EQXX. It's an electric concept car that supposedly has a 620-mile range thanks to its energy-efficient electric powertrain and exceptionally aerodynamic body with a drag coefficient of just 0.17 Cd. It's just a concept car for now, but it may go into production soon.
