During this week-end the automotive world turned its attention to the Goodwood Festival of Speed and now is time to see which cars were the best in the show. One of them - the fastest car overall at Goodwood was a 800 HP Toyota Celica - who needed only 48.07 seconds to blast up the 1.6 mile driveway of Goodwood House. This result placed it in front of many famous racing cars, including recent Formula 1 cars.

The car was built and driven by the former British Rally Champion, Jonny Milner. The car is based on the sixth generation Celica and weights only 2314 lbs. In order to obtain a better weight distribution, the driver’s position has moved back 12 inches, and the car’s center of gravity has been lowered by raising the wheel arches and upper suspension mounts. Under the hood there is an engine borrowed from a World Rally Championship winning Corolla fitted with a Rotrex supercharger that ensured an output of 800 HP. The car was also equipped with a nitrous oxide injection system and super soft rallycross specification Michelin slick tires.

UPDATE 07/07/11: We’ve unearthed a video of the Toyota Celica’s dominant run at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Check it out after the jump!

Wow, it seems that Toyota has made an awesome modification for this car! The lap time record of the Celica is just incredible! I wonder if this will be available in the market or not?

Is that the real platform and styling of the car or its just a camouflage? Anyways, I’m so impressed with the speed performance of this racing car.

I am just curious as to who did the modifications on this Celica. Pretty nifty work that they did here. Maybe they can do that one on my older generation Impreza.

Well now, that was certainly a surprise. It even didn’t get above the 800 hp mark, yet it was actually able to set a pretty outstanding record. Just imagine what would happen if it hits a thousand hp.

Well I guess Toyota has come at Goodwood with a goal to be on top. That monsterous car that runs on 800hp is truly an awesome one.

Wow, an 800 hp Celica, now that would definitely be something. I must admit that I thought that the car was rather a slowpoke, but I am quite surprised that they were able to make this one into a monster.

I wonder if there is other version of Celica? I want to see a coupe version of this car it seems to be a good daily used car! And of course with the same power output.

Well, talking about racing car, the look doesn’t matter at all for the performance is the most important to make it boost in the race track! I was impressed with its performance, its horsepower is equivalent to the figure of a regular sportscar.
