The Wheels YouTube Channel regularly put out videos on some really interesting cars going head to head at the drag strip. They were back at the Bandimere Speedway, in Morrison Colorado, and on this occasion, they had a Toyota Supra take on a tuned Jeep Grand Cherokee and a BMW M3.

2020 Toyota Supra

In the silver corner, we have a stock-looking 2020 Toyota Supra. I don’t really have the specs on the car, but what I will tell you is that, with anything that hits the drag strip, expect to find mods. And people in the comment section of this video agree, as they can’t believe but the fact that a stock Supra can run in the High 11s.

Regardless, to give you some numbers, the stock car features an in-line six-cylinder engine that produces 335 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque with power going to the rear wheels. People have ridiculed the current Supra for just being a rebadged BMW. Let us see if it can redeem itself on track.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk

In the White corner, we have what looks like a Trackhawk Grand Cherokee and this one has been tuned. Once again, the specs are unknown. But just going by the way that this Jeep sounds, I’m sure someone spent a lot of time and money on it.

The Trackhawk features a 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine that in stock form produces 707 horsepower and 645-pound feet of torque.

BMW M3

Finally, we have an old E90 BMW M3 Coupe in sinister black. This one ain’t stock for sure. I mean would you just listen to this thing. The E90 is as you know is a legend and is revered as one of the all-time greats.

The stock car featured a 4.0-liter V-8 engine that produces 420 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. That might not sound like much today, but about ten years ago, it was enough to have a lot of fun. But these are just numbers and tuners have gone out and done their own thing, some of whom have managed to extract double the horsepower from this V-8. Let’s see how these cars fared at the drag strip now, shall we?

Round 1

For round one, we have the 2020 Supra go up against a Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. On paper, the Jeep has more power and packs AWD, but the Supra is lighter. Will that play in the Supra’s favor?

After putting some heat into the rubber, both cars line up at the lights. They turn green and the Jeep got a MEGA launch. It was off, and was ahead of the Supra by a couple of car lengths, within the first hundred feet and it stayed that way pretty much all the way to the finish line. The Jeep did the standing quarter in an impressive 11.33 seconds, while the Supra was just over a second behind at 12.34 seconds.

Round 2

For round two, the Supra went up against the tuned BMW E90 M3. In essence, this is a BMW vs BMW showdown, because, under the skin, the Supra is just a rebadged Z4 isn’t it?

Nonetheless, both these cars lined up for the launch. The hammer drops and the Supra got hit, but before you know it, the BMW got past like the Supra was standing still. It just pulled and pulled and built a considerable Lead on the Toyota, taking the quarter-mile at 11.11 seconds, with the Supra managing 12.70 seconds.

Round 3

In a final bonus round, we have a Jeep vs Jeep face-off. The same white Trackhawk that we saw in round one, now takes on another menacing-looking Trackhawk, which sounds even more mental. If you thought the white one was impressive, wait until you see what this black Grand Cherokee can do.

They pull some burnouts before lining up for the launch. The lights turn green and the white SUV got a big hit, car lengths worth, and it looked like it was all over, but the kitted out Black SUV clawed back and took the lead, going on to win this duel. The Black Grand Cherokee managed a truly astonishing time of 10.28 seconds to complete in the standing quarter while the white car managed 11.57 seconds on this occasion.

Conclusion

The biggest surprise to me in this particular clip was that Black Grand Cherokee, how exactly does one manage to extract such physics-defying performance from everyday family SUVs, still leaves me puzzled. The Supra though was the biggest letdown, especially since it costs north of 50 grand.
