The Toyota FJ Cruiser was discontinued in 2014 for the U.S. market due to dwindling sales. While some may see it as a sales failure, we personally think that it's more of the result of bad timing. The FJ Cruiser was released shortly before the 2008 recession hit and the demand for SUVs wasn't as high as today. Now though, due to the rise in popularity in off-roaders such as the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler, a lot of enthusiasts miss the FJ Cruiser, which has led to low-mileage examples such as this to fetch high prices.

The Toyota FJ Cruiser is an off-roader SUV that you would buy out of want rather than need. Its quirky styling created numerous blind spots, and the suicide rear doors that can't be opened if the front doors are closed are just some of its numerous quirks. Despite this, it's undeniably a very durable and off-road capable machine, so much so that in today's SUV-crazy market, people are starting to see the value of the FJ Cruiser's capabilities.

However, that's not the only reason why this particular 2008 model year FJ Cruiser, which is on sale right now in eBay, is fetching for such a high price of $80,000. That's because under its hood is a 4.0-liter V-6 gasoline engine that comes with a factory-installed supercharger package. As a result, it now produces 304 horsepower and 334 pound-feet of torque, which is 68 horsepower and 68 pound-feet more than the standard FJ Cruiser.

Some of the other features that this particular FJ Cruiser also has include a factory subwoofer, roof rack, roof-mounted lights, TRD wheels, and brush guard. Oh, and did I mention that this comes with a six-speed manual? It also certainly helps that this FJ Cruiser has only clocked in just 994 miles on the odometer. Even high-mileage FJ Cruisers, while not as high in value as this particular model, are also regularly being sold at around $20,000 in the used car market.

This phenomenon isn't unique to the FJ Cruiser though. As off-roader SUVs have risen in popularity as of late, vintage models of the Ford Bronco have experienced a similar situation.

While the FJ Cruiser isn't sold in the United States since 2014, it's still produced today in Japan and exported to markets such as the Middle East, Chile, the Philippines, and South Africa. And with this spike in popularity towards SUVs and off-roaders, we certainly think it's about time for Toyota to revive the FJ Cruiser nameplate and give its American rivals some much-needed competition.
