The result is nothing short of remarkable

YouTube channel ND - Woodworking Art has dropped a video featuring a miniaturized version of the Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta that’s on the receiving end of a paint job that’ll make Maranello proud. The pint-sized LaFerrari Aperta is made out of wood, and it’s the creation of a woodworker who wanted to give his toddler son a memorable Christmas present. The video doesn’t show how the wooden Aperta came to be, but it does show the meticulous process of painting the car to look like a tiny Ferrari.

Easier Said Than Done!

Think again if you thought that painting a mini Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta that’s made out of wood is easy. The woodworker starts the process by applying a generous amount of powder coating on the entire surface of the car. From there, he starts airbrushing different parts of the LaFerrari Aperta. The seats and the tires are painted black while the entire body and the wheels are painted white. The time-lapse video suggests that the process takes a lot of time.

Attention to Detail is the Name of the Game

Sheets are then placed on top of the paint to ensure that the latter dries evenly. After some time, the sheets are peeled off, revealing the smooth white paint of the little wooden supercar. When all that’s done, the woodworker finishes his masterpiece with some touch-ups, starting with painting the car’s faux license plate. He also paints the engine, the Ferrari logo, and the Prancing horse emblems on the front and back of the car. The final touch involves using gold flakes on the Prancing Horse logo to add some shine to his little boy’s new ride.

It’s not a Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta, but it looks pretty darned close to one. The wood worker’s son looks about as excited as you’d expect a two- or three-year-old to be, but what he doesn’t realize is the amount of work his father put into not only building the mini Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta but all the paintwork that had to be done to make it look the way it does.

Kirby’s first exposure into the world of automobiles happened when he caught Knight Rider on television as a five-year old boy. David Hasselhoff didn’t leave much of an impression on him (that happened later on in Baywatch), but KITT certainly did. To this day, Kirby remains convinced that he will one day own a car with the same ‘spirit’ as the original KITT (not the 2008 monstrosity). He doesn't know when that will be, but until then, he’s committed to expressing his love for KITT, and all cars for that matter, here at TopSpeed.  Read full bio
