This new info piqued our interest but we are also waiting for official word from Lexus

While we were worrying about the pain in the ass that is the new coronavirus, back in March, a Toyota-related leak revealed the carmaker’s upcoming plans vis-a-vis its lineup. Among the cascade of novelties, we also learned that a 2021 Lexus IS is on its way.

Not much is out in the wild regarding the sedan, but speculation about what the incoming IS could hide under the hood ranged from it getting the Supra’s BMW-sourced 335-horsepower, 3.0-liter turbo straight-six to more recent rumors saying the novel Lexus IS range might even encompass a V-8 model.

So, how about a 5.0-liter V-8 to motivate the Lexus IS?

2021 IS 500 WITH V8 COMING 🤤 🇯🇵 ______________________________________ [5/18/20] #acnLexus Last week I posted an updated on the upcoming 2021 Lexus IS and how it will not be ALL new and instead will use the same N-platform it is on now though being heavily retuned and revised with wider tracks and other changes. This means a true ground up new IS is still in the works, possibly on a Mazda RWD platform, but the 2021 IS will come with a new IS 500 model and the glorious 5.0L V8! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🏁 @Allcarnews Spec Sheet: Now the rest of The 2021 Lexus IS lineup will keep all of the current engines which include a 2.0L Turbo 4 making 241HP and 258 lb-ft of torque and two 3.5L V6 options ranging from 260HP and 236 lb-ft of torque and 311HP and 277 lb-ft of torque. Originally, the IS500 was rumored to come with a 416HP 3.5L TT V6 but I can gladly say it will have the last application of the Lexus naturally aspirated 5.0L V8 which currently makes 472HP in the RC-F! All engines will have an 8 speed gearbox for RWD and AWD models. The IS-F name though has been and will remain dead even though the upcoming IS500 has the same engine. 🏁 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Outside expect to see styling just like in the renders above, sort of like a sportier baby version of the new LS! Now this is not a facelift but is more of a mild new generation version so we are getting all new body panels, new LED lights, wider front and rear track and more! The biggest feature is expected to be the new interior with a touchscreen/mouse infotainment, new steeringwheel, buttons, gauges and more! An unveil date is not out but I have heard it should be shown off later this Summer or Fall! ________________________________________ ACN EXTRA: You people better buy up the new IS-500 with F-Sport appearance pack and cherish the last Lexus with this engine! ________________________________________ Text by @allcarnews Source: Insider (anonymous) Render: Lexus fourms Video: Everyman Driver on YouTube #Lexus #LF1 #Lc500 #V8 #Urus #Toyota #LS500 #LFA #LCF #drive #carbon ||#powerful #performance #turbocharged #supercharged #advanced #SupercarsRevamped

Have a quick look at the current Lexus IS lineup available in the States and you’ll see two versions, offered with either RWD or AWD: there’s the IS 300 and the IS 350. The 300 gets its oomph from a 2.0-liter, turbo inline-four (241 horsepower) while the 350’s poison is a 3.5-liter V-6 (311 horsepower).

Lexus IS specifications

Top Speed 143 mph 130 mph
Estimated Fuel Economy (City/Hwy/Combined) 22/32/26 19/26/22

If the caption on one of @allcarnews’ Instagram posts is accurate, the four-pot and the vee-six might be joined by a naturally-aspirated 5.0-liter V-8 once the new IS hits the shelves in 2021.

The new range topper won't be called the IS F, though, but IS 500, according to the same 'report'.

What’s more, the same source mentions that the 2021 IS won’t be an all-new model as it will sit on the same New N underpinnings it has been using for the past seven years. Instead, Lexus will tweak the body design-wise, widen the front and rear tracks, and at the same time, revamp the cabin. So think of a heftier facelift of sorts.

On that note, it also goes without saying that we’re taking these bits of info with a pinch of salt since Instagram is not exactly what we’d call a reliable source.

These are nothing but rumors and speculation until further official notice from Lexus, which is yet to come, as a spokesperson for the brand declined to comment on the matter when approached by The Drive.

As time went on, he started seeing that in other cars as well, and his love for the automobile was born.  Read More
