Every now and then, we come across highly exclusive vehicles with an interesting story behind them. This is exactly the case with this Maybach 57S Coupe. Maybach is a very old car brand, which was briefly revived by Mercedes, back in 2002. Two versions – the 57 and 62 – were produced, each with their respective derivatives. Although over 3,000 cars were built in total, there were no coupes. That is until German coachbuilder Xenatec stepped in and converted some of the shorter 57S models. This is one of them and it was supposed to be delivered to a certain head of state - something, which never happened.

The car in question is one of only six Maybach 57S' converted into the two-door Maybach 57SC. Originally, 100 conversions were planned, but obviously, that did not happen. The Xenatec Maybach 57SC was ordered by him, but due to the fall of his government, the delivery never happened.

We are not sure how, but that same Maybach found itself in a Dutch dealership called Autoleitner, where it’s advertised as the lowest mileage Maybach 57SC by Xenatec, with only 1,429 miles (2,300 km). Actually, the dealership has, not one, but two of these Xenatec-converted Maybach 57S. However, we think the story behind this one is more intriguing.

As you would expect from an ultra-luxury vehicle, the equipment list is immense. Soft-close doors, double-glazed windows, electric headrests, electric fridge, and a champagne holder, barely even scratch the surface. The price is steep, especially considering its closest modern-day analog – the Mercedes Maybach S580 – costs around $185,000. On the other hand, you do get a lot of car. In standard form, the Maybach 57S tipped the scales at 6,050 pounds (2,744 kg).

On the other hand, the Mercedes M120 6.0-liter twin-turbo V-12 pumps out 612 horsepower and 738 pound-feet (1,000 Nm). In original (sedan) form, the 57S could reach 60 mph (97 km/) in around 4.8 seconds, on its way to a 171 mph (276 km/h) top speed.

Regardless of how much you care about performance, it’s not every day you get the chance to buy the car of a controversial military and political figure from the Middle East. Moreover, with only six ever converted into coupes, this is certainly one of the most exclusive ultra-luxury vehicles ever made.
