If you are an owner of Acura’s->ke10 newest flagship car the 2015 RLX, you should probably give your local dealer a ring. It seems that Acura is recalling nearly 10,000 models of RLX sold in the United States for a headlight issue. For a reason that was not thoroughly explained, the reflective lining in the back of the headlamp housing can delaminate and come off. If this happens, the headlights should still function just fine, but they will likely have diminished brightness. The main reason for the recall is that without the lamination in place, the car is in violation of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108 and that technically makes the illegal for road use.

Thankfully there have been no reported crashes, deaths or injuries resulting from this defect. It is recommended that if you are an owner that you call your Acura dealer as soon as you can to see if your car is one of the 9,700 units affected. Otherwise, Acura will begin sending out notices in the mail to affected owners in February 2015. If you don’t like talking to your dealer, and you don’t want to wait until February, Acura says that owners can also do a search at recalls.Acura.com to see if their car is one of the defective models.

Why it matters

This may only be a mild voluntary recall, but since there have been no reported crashes or injuries with this issue it shows that Acura is diligently watching and listening to customers' feedback and repair issues. That would be the only way it could have located the issue in the first place.

In a time when Acura is struggling to lure customers from other luxury brands, this attention to detail proves that Acura is not sitting back and hoping things will turn around. It needs to aggressively chase perfection to prove that their cars are worth buying over something with a Lexus,->ke47 BMW->ke178 or Infiniti->ke36 badge.

Acura RLX

The Acura RLX is the new flagship sedan of Honda’s luxury division. It debuted in 2014 as a replacement for the aging RL sedan. The RLX is most exciting for its new drivetrain options. While base cars come with a new version of the 3.5-liter, V-6 engine making 310 horsepower, there will also be a hybrid version coming. This new RLX Sport Hybrid will employ a new hybrid drivetrain and a modified version of the Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system that Honda is creating for the upcoming NSX supercar. Acura claims this new car will provide V-8 speed and performance with four-cylinder fuel economy. The automaker is targeting more than 30 mpg in the city.
