After seeing This Rendering, Toyota Definitely Needs to Build a GR 86 Shooting Brake
This rendering might eventually inspire Toyota to give us a GR86 Shooting brakeby Dim Angelov, on LISTEN 01:58
We recently covered a rendering, which gave us an idea of how a Toyota GR86 Convertible could look like. Now, the Hungarian virtual design studio – X-Tomi Design – is giving us another great idea. They’ve taken the Toyota GR86 and decided to make a shooting break out of it. We have to admit, the results are quite good. The Shooting brake concept is a very old one. It dates back to the 1800s and the first shooting brake cars were manufactured in Britain.
Essentially, a shooting brake is a sportier station wagon. Nowadays, the concept is, once again, gaining popularity and almost any popular high-performance car has renderings of it, in shooting brake form. X-Tomi Design took the simple forms of the GR86 and simply elongated the roofline. This will, no doubt, increase interior space and give the car more practicality. Of course, the most notable feature will be the rear hatch opening, which will allow you to store bulkier objects or simply put a spare set of tires, for when you burn through the ones you already have while drifting.
At least from this front three-quarter angle, it doesn’t look like they’ve compromised the sleek design of the car. The rear still swoops down gently, instead of ending abruptly, like something that has been chopped with an axe. X-Tomi Design continues to amaze us with their work and giving us answers to questions like “how would a GR86 Shooting brake or convertible look?”
The trend is already viral and, in some cases, if influenced various coach-building companies and tuners to make shooting brake versions of cars. Some of these are the Callaway Corvette AeroWagon or the Bentley Continental Flying Star by Carrozzeria Turing. The curiosity towards this body style, combined with the creativity of studios like X-Tomi Design could mean that, in the future, we might be getting shooting brake versions of cars we didn’t even expect. Only time will tell.
