This rare car makes 1,000 horses and can hit speeds in excess of 240 mph

Saleen has built some high-performance cars since its inception, but the most prominent one is the S7. This mid-engined, hand-built sports car stayed in production for about a decade. The S7 was powered by an all-aluminum V-8 engine that produced 550 horses in its first run until 2005 and was then updated to make 750 ponies in the later model years.

The S7 was a high-profile car and you don’t see many on the road or up for sale very often. However, one example from 2007 has arrived at Bring-a-Trailer and it is already commanding a price of over half-a-million bucks!

Is Saleen S7 Different From Saleen S7 LM?

Although this is a 2007 Saleen S7, it was recommissioned by the automaker to LM specifications in 2018. To give you a little backdrop, the S7 was retired in 2009 but was brought back in 2017 as the S7 LM. This time, it was launched in partnership with Chinese automotive company Jiangsu Secco Automobile Technology Corporation and was built to commemorate Saleen’s success in motorsports.

It came with stuff like a full-width rear spoiler, side skirts, new forged alloy wheels, a digital tachometer, bucket seats, and a 240 mph speedometer, to name a few.

The biggest change, however, was made to the powertrain. The engine was updated to churn out 1,300 horses.

In 2019, the power figures were further bumped up and the S7 LM now made 1,500 horses and 1,398 pound-feet of torque. It reportedly took just 2.2 seconds to sprint to 62 mph from rest and had a top speed of 298 mph. As mentioned earlier, this 2007 S7 was rebuilt as per the LM specifications in 2018, and hence, it’s called the 2007 Saleen S7 LM.

How Is It On The Outside?

The car features a steel space frame and carbon-fiber bodywork. It is built with aluminum honeycomb impact-absorbing panels. It is finished in silver and black exterior shade and clear-coated carbon fiber. The additional equipment on this example include an adjustable biplane rear wing, a roof-mounted intake scoop, and projector headlamps.

The Saleen S7 comes with power-operated butterfly doors, too. It rides on 19-inch wheels at the front and 20-inch wheels at the back. They are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires measuring 275/35 at the front and 335/30 at the back. A rear lip spoiler, rear diffuser, side skirts, air vents, aid with the aerodynamics, along with an enclosed underbody to help maintain split-channel airflow.

Step inside the cabin and you’ll be welcomed by Sparco-designed seats trimmed in black leather and Alcantara that feature yellow accents and “LeMans” edition embroidery. There’s also a suede-covered Sparco steering wheel and an LED display with a digital tachometer. Alcantara can further be found on the A-pillars, headliner, and rear panel. There are quite a few interesting tidbits, which include:

  • Adjustable steering column
  • Backup camera
  • Air conditioning
  • Four-point Sparco harnesses

This mid-engined sports car is powered by a 7.0-liter, V-8 engine based on Ford’s Windsor 351 small block. Thanks to the rebuild by Saleen a couple of years back, the engine now makes 1,000 horses and 850 pound-feet of torque as opposed to 750 ponies and 700 pound-feet of torque in its original iteration. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential. The top speed of this car is rated over 240 mph.

Saleen S7 specifications
Engine: twin-turbo, 7.0-liter V-8
Horsepower: 1,000 horsepower
Torque: 850 pound-feet
0-60 mph: 2.7 seconds
Top speed: 240 mph

The braking duties are taken over by yellow-painted monoblock calipers over two-piece floating rotors. The suspension setup includes unequal-length double wishbones and aluminum coilover dampers on all four corners.

This 2007 Saleen S7 LM was acquired by the current owner in 2019 and is now offered on dealer consignment out of Costa Mesa, California, with a clean Montana title. However, it cannot pass California emissions testing. The car has just 158 miles on the odo. At the time of penning this article, the 2007 Saleen has a current bid of $576,007.
