Based on the Mercedes-AMG GT

Legendary racing driver Sir Stirling Moss passed away on April 12, at the age of 90. The Brit became an icon in the 1950s when he raced in Formula One and competed in major series that included the 24 Hours of Le Mans, 12 Hours of Sebring, and Mille Miglia. He won important races for a variety of automakers, including the 1955 Mille Miglia in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR. In the same year, he raced the iconic Mercedes W196 in Formula One. This collaboration was revived in 2009 when Moss helped the Germany company create the limited-edition Mercedes SLR McLaren Stirling Moss. 11 years have passed since then, and auto design Costas Phouphoullides rendered a modern version of that car to pay one final tribute to Moss.

Modern Mercedes SLR Rendering

Called the AMG GT Silver Echo, a tribute to the old Mercedes-Benz racers dubbed the Silver Arrows, this sexy speedster is based on the modern Mercedes-AMG GT. However, it also borrows the overall layout of the SRL McLaren Stirling Moss. It features the same long hood, the open cockpit design, and the big flying buttresses behind the seats. But it also comes with modern touches, such as a pointy, F1-inspired nose, a massive front splitter, revised aero elements onto the sides, and a big diffuser around back. The muscular rear haunches, the boat-tail rear end, and the wide and thin taillights add even more drama.

"Sir Stirling Moss and the cars he drove have been huge influences on my career," says Phouphoullides, who has created digital renderings of futuristic Aston Martins and Bentleys too in the past. The AMG GT Silver Echo seems one of his best designs yet, and I bet Stirling Moss would approve something like this for production.
