The Kia Stinger GT sits at the top of the Korean, non-premium food chain
However, there's a new challenger from the mother company, Hyundai - the Elantra N. Stinger GT has a big power advantage, but the Elantra N packs a surprising amount of grunt
How they stack up, engine-wise
The Kia Stinger GT's 3.3-liter twin-turbo V-6 packs 365 hp and 376 lb/ft while the Hyundai Elantra N's 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 makes up to 286 hp and 289 lb/ft. However, Elantra N has the advantage in most other departments
Despite being down on power, the Elantra N is the more performance-oriented vehicle here
Its chassis has a sportier setting, compared to the bigger Stinger. The Elantra N is also around 800 lbs lighter, which could make up for the power disadvantage
The Kia Stinger GT is more of a gran tourer
Unlike the Elantra N, the Stinger GT has a milder set up, more appropriate for a gran tourer. While much heavier, the Kia also has all-wheel drive while the Hyundai sends power to the front wheels only
The Hyundai Elantra N has an advantage when it comes to the transmission
Both Koreans rely on an 8-speed automatic, but the one in the Elantra N is a dual-clutch unit, which makes for snappier gear changes. The only disadvantage of the DCT is when it has to downshift multiple gears
