A Bugatti-Porsche collaboration is also heating up the rumor mill

Bugatti is reportedly looking to build on the success of the Divo with plans to build more special edition hypercars in the coming years. Word in the pipeline is that the French automaker is setting its sights on developing Superleggera, SS, and Aperta versions of the Chiron. This is the first time we’re hearing about an assault of special edition Chirons, but all these rumored cars are also just the tip of the iceberg. If the whispers are taken with more than a grain of salt, Bugatti could also launch a partnership with Porsche, Rimac, and Dallara to develop an electric vehicle.

You can always count on Bugatti to be the source of earth-shaking rumors. As if the launch of the Divo hypercar wasn’t enough to shock our sensibilities, these new rumors could send us into full-blown spasms. So what’s all the fuss about, exactly?

Basically, Automobile is reporting that the Bugatti Chiron is going to give birth to some special edition children in the coming years. These aren’t just novelty special editions with fancy colors and studded wheels. These special editions are re-engineered monsters in the vein of the Divo.

The Chiron Superleggera, for example, is touted as a lighter version of the Chiron that, presumably, will use 3D-printed parts to help the hypercar shed some weight with the goal of taking the hypercar’s performance levels on another level.

It’s as if the Chiron — it can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 2.3 seconds and hit a top speed of 261 mph — still isn’t fast enough, right?

The Automobile report also talks about a Chiron SS, which is entirely similar to the Superleggera, except that the root of the changes don’t involve the hypercar’s weight, but its performance abilities. The Chiron SS is a more hardcore version of the current Bugatti kingslayer. Apparently, the hypercar’s 8.0-liter, quad-turbo, W16 can still be improved to the point that it develops more than 1,500 horsepower and 1,180 pound-feet of torque. Bugatti is reportedly looking into doing that for this special-edition model.

On the tamer side of the rumor mill sits the Bugatti Chiron Aperta. It’s still capable of popping your eyes out, but it’s rumored calling card will be an open roof with a removable panel.

The Chiron Aperta, or whatever name it ends up having, is reportedly the likeliest of these new special editions to arrive.

Bugatti execs have been on record for a while about its desire to build an open-top version of the Chiron. This could be it.

Then there’s the coup de grâce. It’s a rumor that sounds preposterous on paper, but not so when you consider the anything-goes world that Bugatti inhabits. According to Automobile, Bugatti is in talks with Porsche, Rimac, and Dallara to join forces and develop an electric car. The thought of Bugatti and Rimac forming a tag team is mind-blowing enough on its own, but if Porsche and Dallara are also in the mix, there’s no telling what kind of electric monstrosity they’re capable of building together.

Obviously, none of these items are confirmed yet so hold off on selling your houses. But if these special edition hypercars become reality, there’s no telling what kind of landscape the hypercar world will have when they arrive.
