General Motors just introduced the Hummer EV, an all-electric revival of the iconic hauler. The electric truck will enter production in the fall of 2021 with a limited-series Edition 1 model, with three regular trims to be added to the lineup from 2022 to 2024. Already available through $100 reservations, the Edition 1 sold out in just an hour.

The GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 didn't last long

Like most automakers nowadays, GMC will kick off Hummer EV production with a high-spec limited-edition model called the Edition 1. This variant is the most expensive announced so far, and it will help the brand put less expensive trims into production. GM says that all 2021 production for the Edition 1 was sold out in just an hour. But the correct term here is reserved out, as GMC is not selling any Hummers right now. Instead, it opened up reservations for the Edition 1 for a $100 deposit. The truck is priced from $112,595.

While this is an impressive feat, we're missing essential data about GMC's production run for the truck in 2021. So that's maybe a few thousand trucks at best?

In case you want one, and you missed your chance, GM says you can still sign up on a waiting list. This means you can have the chance to buy an Edition 1 truck if someone doesn't go through to pay the full amount.

What is the GMC Hummer EV Edition 1?

The Edition 1 is a first edition model, and it's loaded with all sorts of optional extras. It's also the most powerful model announced yet. The latter figure likely converts to around 900 pound-feet of twist. This truck will hit 60 mph from a standing start in about three seconds. It provides a range of at least 350 miles per single charge.

The Edition 1 is based on the EV3x trim, the upcoming range-topping model, but it also includes an extreme off-road package and an 800-volt DC fast charger that adds almost 100 miles in just 10 minutes. The truck is painted white, and it comes with an exclusive badge inside the cabin. The Infinity roof with modular, transparent sky panels is included as standard. The truck retails from $112,595.

What's next?

Based on GM's production estimates for the Hummer EV, production of the Edition 1 will continue in 2022 as well. Starting fall 2022, GMC will start offering the EV3x model the Edition 1 is based on. This version will feature 800 horsepower and a range of 300+ miles and will retail from $99,995. The next version, the EV2x, will go into production in spring 2023. Powered by a twin-motor layout with 625 horsepower, it will offer more than 300 miles per charge. This version will cost $89,995. Finally, GMC will introduce the entry-level EV2 model in sprint 2024. Also powered by a twin-motor setup, it will also deliver 625 horsepower, but range decreases to 250+ miles. The most affordable Hummer EV will come in at $79,995 before options.
