• Apple Design Cues On Modern Cars? This Is Just Weird

These cars featuring Apple design cues give some idea to what a full Apple lineup might look like

Cars and smart devices may sound like an odd mix, but nowadays pretty much any big corporation is having a go at making cars. Some years ago Google tried it and now manufacturers like Huawei have announced their first car. We also know that Apple is working on a car and is aiming for a debut in 2024. But what happens when you take already existing cars that we know, and apply design elements, taken straight off the Apple product lineup? These five renderings answer the question.

Among the renders are some pretty epic cars, including an R35 GT-R, GR Supra, Honda E, and what look to be more streamlined versions of the Kia Soul and Toyota Prius, with suicide doors. Given the controversy around the Supra’s styling (among other things), some might actually find the Apple treatment appealing as it does away with all fake vents in favor of a much cleaner design.

The only thing we are not sure about is the name – “iCar” – and the ala-Volkswagen headlights. The solid dish wheels are definitely functional and would improve airflow, but look a bit out of place on the Japanese sports car.

The next “iCar” is based on a Nissan GTR. An interesting design feature is a rear wing, which seems to be an extension of the body, rather than a separate piece mounted on top of the trunk lid. The new front end immediately attracts attention, especially with the lack of a front grille, hinting at the car is an EV. The headlights are quite conventional, but the DRLs on the new front fascia are an obvious throwback to some Apple products.

The Honda E, on the other hand, is not significantly altered.

The front end is the focus here, as it seems to be replaced by the automotive equivalent of an Apple iPhone. The entire front fascia seems like it’s one big protector screen and the headlights have been styled after an iPhone’s cameras.

As mentioned, the last two renderings are what looks like a Kia Soul and a Toyota Prius. Actually, the latter looks quite similar to Apple’s own car, which is still in development. Both cars seem to have rear suicide doors and they are obviously powered by electricity. In any case, should Apple decide to make more than one vehicle, this is what their lineup might look like.

Born in 1992, I come from a family of motoring enthusiasts. My passion for cars was awoken at the age of six, when I saw a Lamborghini Diablo SV in a magazine. After high school I earned a master’s degree in marketing and a Master of Arts in Media and Communications. Over the years, I’ve practiced and become skilled in precision driving and to date have test driven more than 250 cars across the globe. Over the years, I’ve picked up basic mechanical knowledge and have even taken part in the restoration of a 1964 Jaguar E-Type and an Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint. Lately, I’ve taken a fancy to automotive photography, and while modern cars are my primary passion, I also have a love for Asian Martial Arts, swimming, war history, craft beer, historical weapons, and car restoration. In time, I plan my own classic car restoration and hope to earn my racing certificate, after which I expect to establish my own racing team.  Read full bio
