At the moment, Land Rover is busy testing the next Defender 130 - a stretched version of the current 110 that will add room for two to three extra seats. However, today our spy photographers caught another interesting Defender prototype playing around Nürburgring, and we have reasons to believe this could be the next Defender V8 SVR.

First of all, we think you agree this is no ordinary Defender. It features massive fender flares and the wheels are not the typical wheels you see on a Defender. And, despite Land Rover doing a very good job hiding the brakes, it is obvious they are bigger than on a standard model. You can also spot wider fenders, which, of course, indicate that there is also a wider track. All these differences made us think this could be a mule for the hotter Defender SVR.

The Defender SVR has been rumored for quite some time now. It will take on cars like the Mercedes AMG G63 and rumors suggest that it will be powered by a BMW sourced twin-turbo V-8 engine - the same engine used in cars like the current M5 sedan and X5 M/X6 M. In the Defender SVR the V-8 should deliver around 600 horsepower - numbers that make sense when you consider the G63 delivers 577 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque.

Expect the production version of the Defender SVR to look slightly different when compared to the base Defender. It will get bigger air intakes and possibly some more lightweight components.

The prototype caught testing today is based on the Defender 100, but we expect the SVR to be available in both 90 and 110 versions. It should debut sometime in 2023.
