The new Audi A1 is set to make its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March of 2010 but that hasn’t stopped the boys from Ingolstadt to give us a sneak preview of the premium supermini. The four-ringed brand released two videos detailing the new A1 with one of them involving a graffiti artist to paint the A1 on a wall while the other features a video interview with Dany Garand and Stefan Sielaff, the principal designers behind the creation of the A1.

Based from what we’ve seen and heard of the car, the A1 looks to be a little bigger and wider than Mini and will come with a cylinder diesel and gasoline engine variants with direction injection. According to Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi, the new Audi A1 is being created with a mission to continue the momentum generated by the success that was enjoyed by the A3 in the compact segment. “With the A1 we’re opening another door into the world of premium cars," he said.

While he did err on the side of a little diplomacy, there’s no question in our minds that Audi is bent on giving the BMW-owned MINI a run for its money in the compact car segment and the new A1 figures to be its new standard-bearer to challenge the MINI and the Alfa Romeo MiTo.

Press release

Audi will be the first manufacturer to offer a premium car in the subcompact segment when it launches the Audi A1. A young target group will experience new standards of quality, technology, and design.

The waiting comes to an end in early February 2010 when the A1 celebrates its online premiere (end of secrecy). Until then, we’ll make the wait more tolerable by giving you a look through the keyhole. In the weeks ahead, Audi experts will be explaining characteristic details of design and production online before we show the first photos of the car.

Following the online premiere we’ll throw the doors wide open and reveal the background behind the technology, driving dynamics, and efficiency leading up to the Geneva Motor Show (March 2010). Members of the Audi Board of Management will answer your questions online. Please note: All content, such as videos, photos, and text information can be downloaded from the “Journalists’ Corner” on the Audi A1 MediaGuide.

I’ve already saw the A1 and yes it’s very aggressive specially with it’s front air intake. I really want to get my hand on this baby.

The competition after all was quite tough by dealing with the Mini and the Mito but this will be the greatest hatchback that enthusiasts like me is turned on this one, the Audi A1. I’m really hooked.

Also waiting on this one where I’ve been checking the reviews and all of them are good. The design is also great (you can watch the video) and expecting a lot on the performance where this A1 series will venture long enough on the market. Also saving money just for this one.
