The luxury arm of the Volkswagen family, Audi, has already shown us a teaser of the all new sleek shaped Audi A5 Sportback, the future four door coupe has been spotted undisguised during a recent photo session in Southern California.

The upcoming A5 Sportback is scheduled to make its autoshow debut at Frankfurt and will go on sale later this year offering greener options like an alternatively fueled 2.0 Liter TDI power plant starting at only €36,050. Expect the Audi A5 Sportback to hit U.S. shores sometime soon after.

If Mercedes Benz though they were on to something by branding the four door coupe, it looks like Audi is following suit with the fastback styling of their sport back model, if it weren’t for the second set of door handles, it would be hard to tell that this sports model is more than a coupe.

Sportsbacks and hatchbacks don’t really have good sales records in the North American shore that is the reason why most European car makers would not wish to trade the record of their promising sales in Europe with the marked taste of Amercans for the coupe over hatchbacks type segments.

This spy shot would somehow spoil the teasing Audi is doing but to complement the guy who did this shot, it was a good shot despite a difficult angle. now we see the rear section better giving up a a good idea how it really looks.

Audi A5 looks a lot better than the BMW 5GT series. The A5 seems to have a balance in proportions, I like this. To me it’s looking much better than the hideous 5 gt and also panamera. I think this sportback will make great but of course it is not right so compare both as the two are not sportsback, but I might prefer to buy this one if I have the dollars for it.

Interesting new wave of 5 door hatchbacks flooding the USA market all of a sudden. From Porsche Panamera, BMW 5GT, Audi A4 5-door
Acura ZDX, Honda Accord 5-door. Although these are mosly sedan and not sportsback.

Somehow I thought that it would be considerably lower/sleeker... This almost looks to have more (ungainly) BMW 5-GT like proportions. From the angle it seems that the spy photographer was hiding in a tree to take this pic.

It looks like the front and rear sections have a resemblance to the A5 coupe and the middle section is extended for the two rear doors that come without frames. The A5 Sportback has a profile of a coupe with a lower roofline in contrast to the A4 and a tapering hatch into the clear air spoiler at the back. Great looks

Well, basing from the images, it is speculated that the spotted car will come with higher specs since it is equipped with the A5 Coupe’s five spoke alloy wheels. Audi had only released a teaser image and artist’s rendition of the vehicle. The front section of the vehicle has been masked but for the first time the rear section can be clearly observed.

It is a shame that this car will not make it to the USA and this will be as close as Americans will get to the car unless Audi decides to bring the car here. Maybe its is hightime that European car makers consider marketing sportsback and hatchbacks to the North American shore. It may work this time.

This is a must. A surfaced one can be seen over at Fourtitude.com where the reader sent in shots of the car which was on the campus of University of San Diego. Going by the user name of Zamafir, this young sole broke the look of the Audi A5 Sportback. Awss, that spoils the suspense.

Check this out. Just last week Topspeed showed the teaser image of the all new Audi A5 Sportback which gave us a glimpse of the back of the vehicle. Today there is a shot that is much more revealing of the new A5 Sportback from Audi. I guess, in this case Audi’s intentions were to keep the wraps up on this new car but how could they in such a public arena as a college campus and so many Iphone equipped citizen journalists? Perhaps they wished for the A5 Sportback to be discovered? What do you think?
