Werner Frowein, head of Audi's Quattro GmbH, has announced a new strategy for the RS models. Until now the RS models, like the Audi RS4 and Audi RS6, were unveiled at the end of the lifecycle of the cars on which they’re based. But this is going to change. In the future the RS model are going to be launched within two years after the launch of the based model and production will be increased.

The big sales and profits are the result of a strong demand for the sporty models. In 2000 Audi subsidiary sold only 2,500 vehicles. This year they sold "approximately 5,300 Audi RS4, and around 4,000 R8, in addition to more than 50,000 individual vehicles, and about 300,000 S-Line packages." Both the RS4 (73,400 euro) and the R8 (104,000 euro) are powered by a 4.2-liter engine with 420 horsepower and a combined fuel consumption of 13.5 and 14.6 liters (manufacturer's specifications).

In 2008 Audi expects sales of about 5.500 R8, 5000 RS6 and 1000 RS4, which will also be taken out of production at the end of the year. The RS6, with a maximum output of 580 hp will be available starting spring of 2008.

Audi will launch a high-performance version for the Q7 powered by a V12 engine. Also there will be the TT-RS and the RS version for the R8. In the near future the company will also launch a sedan version for the RS6 and the RS5.
