Earlier this year a number of three Audi R8 burned to the ground on the Nurburgring race track. Until now Audi kept the identity of those cars secret, but in an interview with Dutch news site Nieuws.nl they said that those three cars were twin-turbo V10 RS8 mule.

The Audi RS8, the high performance version of the Audi R8, is powered by a twin-turbocharged V10 engine that develops 580 hp (same as in the RS6). Because of the mid-engine layout, the monster twin-blown V10 had cooling problems - this resulted in a total of 3 prototypes sharing the same fiery fate.

The Audi RS8 will be unveiled next year in January at the Detroit Auto Show. Hope the cooling problems are solved and won't burn out the entire show!
