While the Audi A5 will get a minor facelift for 2010, the big news is the RS5 which is set to debut this September at the Frankfurt Auto Show. We found out back in November that Audi will be downsizing many of its quickest models. While the current RS6 is powered by a 5.0 Liter twin turbo V10 making 580 HP, the RS5 will be motivated in the form of the RS4s 4.2 Liter FSI V8 except that this time output will be bumped up to 450 HP.

By combining the upgraded FSI engine with Audi’s patented Quattro all wheel drive technology the German automaker is about to release a very stylish high performance vehicle into the market that will easily compete with the likes of BMW’s boy racer M3 and even an AMG powered C63 from Mercedes Benz. Although there are no official specifications from the manufacturer at the time that this undisguised RS5 was photographed in California’s Death Valley we expect that it will be able to go from 0 to 60 MPH in around 4.5 seconds, not to shabby for a luxury car.

3.2 seconds with a reflash? Okaaay...
I don’t think the RS5 will do 4.5 though.

Now dont get me wrong, this SR5 is something that will definately compete with most out there, but like people are saying, it will not compete with the recent M3. I have also driven the M3 and when I drove, i dont know about you guys, but i got to 60 mph in 3.2 secs. and all it had added was a chip. I do have to disagree, the M3 is very fun on the streets. in the states you have more straits and a fews curves on the highways but here in germany where i am there is so much fun for an M3. turns are every where. but thats my 2 cents on that subject.

Personaly I’ve driven the latest M3, and the power is there, except that it is just too peaky an engine, perfect for the race track but not so fun on the street. Whereas the Audi’s torque will pull the car right off the line

0-60mpf in 4.5 sec and with 450hp? that’s not bad i guess. but still cant beat the M3’s 0-60mph in 4.1 sec, according to road and track during their first test and if the M3 has the M-DCT transmission. nice try from audi though, cos bmw always come on out on top, especially the M models
