Here are two icons from different eras going head to head in a 1/4 mile face-off. A sight to behlod
In the orange corner, we have this highly sought after 1969 Chevy Corvette with the legendary L88 under the hood
In this particular car, the 427ci has been bored out to 439ci and it produces anywhere in the region of 550 - 570 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque
While the L88's factory compression ratio was 12.0:1, this one with the added oomph puts out 13.5:1
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 3-speed auto
Couple to a 4.56 rear axle gears
The Chevy is pretty light by modern standards and tips the scales at 3454 lbs
Next, we've got another modern-day legend, this sinister 2018 Dodge Demon
One of just 3300 ever produced, the Demon is essentially a street-legal drag racer. If you splurged the extra $1 on the Demon Crate, you got a lot more kit
Under the hood lies the 6.2-L HEMI V-8 along with a 2.7-L Supercharger that puts out 808 hp and 717 lb-ft on 91 Octane. That number climbs to 840 hp and 770 lb-ft on 100 octane
The Demon has a compression ratio of 9.5:1
Power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels via an 8-speed ZF auto
That works in with 3.09 rear gears
The Demon is pretty hefty and comes in at a whopping 4280 lbs (without driver)
Numbers taken care of, conditions for racing looked pretty decent
Out on track, from a dig, the Demon's ZF 8-speed and slicks helped it gain an early lead over the trailing Vette
The HEMI did the 1/4 mile in 10.32s @135.38 mph, while the L88 did the same distance in a commendable 11.55s @121.16 mph
So the Demon won. Not surprised, but the 50-year-old Vette held its own. This particular car is easily capable of running in the high 10s
You can just imagine what the Chevy can do with a supercharger and slicks. Swipe up to watch this epic battle unfold.
