We’ve been covering woodies in these pages a lot recently, and for good reason. The car body style deserves to be covered as much it does, and while we’ll continue to do that, we’re showcasing something similar — and different — this time around.

This, folks, is a 1967 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 that’s built entirely from wood. It’s not the woodie you expected, but it’s the wood carving we all deserve. This masterful creation comes to us by way of the YouTube channel Woodworking Art, which is a must-follow channel, by the way.

How did the wood carving of the 1967 Ford Mustang came to be?

Each piece, big or small, is worked on meticulously to the measurements, ensuring that there isn’t a piece that’s too big or too small for the project.

The sculpting and carving of these wood slabs is probably the best part of the video because you see in detail how the Shelby Mustang GT500 comes into shape, complete with all of the body and character lines that the classic muscle car is known for.

Arguably the most impressive part of the whole process starts at the 3:30 mark. That’s when the sculptor begins adding all the intricate details in the design of the OG Shelby GT500. From the grille to the interior to the wheels, the level of skill involved in using a chisel to carve out the small and intricate parts of the Shelby Mustang GT500 is boss-like to the nth degree.

What does the final product look like?

The details are downright incredible. From the tinted windows to the thread details on the tires and the moving steering wheel, everything about this wood carving of a Shelby Mustang GT500 speaks to the talent of the sculptor to be able to create something like this from several wood slabs.
