The Bentley Continental GT traces its lineage all the way back to 1952 when the R-Type Continental became one of the world’s first grand tourers. Back then, the R-Type Continental was considered one of the most benevolent vehicles on the road, a reputation it earned for its peerless design and stout performance capabilities. It was also limited to just 208 units, making it ultra exclusive. All these things have led to the belief that the R-Type Continental is regarded as one of the finest Bentleys in history.

The iconic design of the R-Type Continental is one of its most enduring qualities. The car’s striking power line, muscular rear haunches, and the swooping, fast roof line help inspire a generation of fans who have remained loyal to Bentley, even to this day. A lot of things may have changed in the past 63 years, but one thing has remained true: the Bentley Continental GT continues to uphold the legacy left behind by the R-Type Continental.

From the same design cues to its approach towards luxury and performance, the Continental GT has proudly carried on the legacy of the R-Type Continental. In a lot of ways, Bentley has achieved something that’s extraordinarily rare in the industry. It has captured the essence of what the company stands for, thanks in large part to two unique models that share the same DNA, even though they’re separated by six decades.

Kirby’s first exposure into the world of automobiles happened when he caught Knight Rider on television as a five-year old boy. David Hasselhoff didn’t leave much of an impression on him (that happened later on in Baywatch), but KITT certainly did. To this day, Kirby remains convinced that he will one day own a car with the same ‘spirit’ as the original KITT (not the 2008 monstrosity). He doesn't know when that will be, but until then, he’s committed to expressing his love for KITT, and all cars for that matter, here at TopSpeed.  Read More
