• Bentley Releases New "Mulliner Blackline" Edition of the Continental GT

It’s just cosmetic though, c’mon Bentley.

Black cars have always been the cooler option. Partly because there is something sinister about a black muscle car like a Dodge Challenger. Even draping black on something as cutesy as a FIAT 500 makes it look that much better.

This package is way more popular than you would think.

Bentley releases the ’Blackline’ package for the Continental Mulliner.

However, Black has especially always worked on luxury cars. This would explain why Bentley has just released the new "Mulliner Blackline" package to the Continental GT Mulliner and Continental GT Mulliner Convertible to cash in on the murdered-out Luxo-barge craze.

It actually is a craze, as 38% of all Continental orders are optioned with the "Blackline package." Just imagine how much money Bentley will make now that this package is on the most expensive Continental. Technically, the Blackline package is now available on every single Bentley currently on sale.

So, what is it exactly?

The Blackline package does not alter the interior or powertrain.

Essentially, it turns the trim pieces black, most of them anyway. The mirror caps that used to be silver are now Beluga Black (Why did they name a shade of black after an entirely white whale?), and the grilles at the bottom of the front bumper are black now, as are the "matrix wing vents" as well.

Also included are black-painted 22-inch wheels with self-leveling center caps for the logo, just like a Rolls Royce. The radiator grille is black as well, but the bezel that goes around the grille is chrome. The classic "winged-B" logo remains chrome also.

38% of all Continentals are ordered with the Blackline package.

On the inside, the Blackline does not change a thing, which is probably a plus because the "normal" Mulliner interior was already so outstanding it was second only to Rolls Royce. Changing it would more than likely have just made it worse. So, expect the usual diamond-quilting pattern on the seats, doors, and rear quarter panels made of either contrast stitching, accent stitching, or with enough money, probably both. By the way, there are just shy of 400,000 stitches in a Mulliner interior, that is 712 stitches per diamond.

The difference between this Blackline and the lesser Blackline is the Mulliner has chrome around the grille and a chrome "winged-B."

The Blackline does not alter the performance or drivetrain either. That leaves the standard 4-liter twin-turbo V-8 capable of 542 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque, or a 6.0-liter, twin-turbo, W-12, which can churn out 626 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. Both engines send their power to the wheels through an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic and an all-wheel-drive system.
