With a little help from the creative genius of Jon Sibal, Porsche’s modern interpretation of the 935 ‘Moby Dick’ turns into a Pikes Peak monster ready to take the 156-turn course by storm.

Porsche loves Pikes Peak and we love both

The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb has had its fair share of monster-performance cars racing to the top of the mountain: Acura NSXs fitted with huge wings and splitters, Nissan GT-Rs on steroids, pimped out Chevrolets, Viper ACRs, and even souped-up pickup trucks. In this regard, Pikes Peak is a true festival of speed in its own right where diversity is king.

Now, since Porsche is synonymous with racing in all its forms, it’s also been a loyal ‘customer’ of the Race to the Clouds since 1958 - that’s when Bill Paine entered the hillclimb race with a 356 A Speedster.

In more recent times, back in 2018, the Germans lined up a Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport specifically tuned for the task while in 2019, six Cayman GT4 Clubsport MRs, a twin-turbo GT3 R EVO, and an all-electric 1973 Porsche RSR raced up the mountain.

For 2020, however, Pikes Peak will continue to run, but it’s been moved to August 30 and there will be no spectators allowed. We also don’t know what sort of Porsches will participate, but visual artist Jon Sibal came with his own interpretation of what a Porsche-sanctioned 2020 Pikes Peak racer might look like.

The renders are based on the new Porsche 935 because Jon says he was inspired by Jeff Zwart’s decision to run the hillclimb in one of those. As you know, the 935 is powered by a 3.8-liter six-cylinder (also twin-turbo) engine identical to the one found in the road-legal 911 GT2 RS, where it cranks out 700 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque.

Jon’s take, however, was more of the aesthetic ilk. As in, he fitted the would-be racer with a huge rear wing and tweaked its longtail appearance further to incorporate the addition.

We don’t know about you, but we love it already. The only thing it misses is a proper livery, but we reckon anything in Martini colors would do just fine…
