BMW has bought the John Cooper Works label from the from the Cooper family, the maker of tuning kits and accessories for the Mini line of cars. On future Minis, the performance packs will be corporate BMW rather than cottage-industry Cooper.

BMW struck the deal over the holidays with Mike Cooper, the son of John Cooper, the former Formula One race car builder who inspired the original 1960s Mini Cooper.
