BMW->ke178 has been hard at work glorifying the BMW M3->ke2366 by producing a short video about each generation of the M3. Today, we’re watching a brief history of the fourth-generation M3, known as the E92 generation. It was the best generation of M3 yet and was released in coupe, sedan and convertible variants.

Pushing 420 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, the fourth-generation M3 was no joke. BMW put a lot of focus into dropping overall weight of the 3-series, which was primarily done by dropping the weight of the front end, and providing the car with a carbon fiber roof. Even better, this generation of the M3 spawned the race-oriented BMW M3 GTS – a track monster that produced 450 horsepower from that V-8 powerplant under the hood.

It's fun to talk about the history of the M3, but watching the video reminds us that it is even more fun to see it in action and to hear that tuned roar as the engine crosses the 8,000 RPM threshold. Don’t forget, the GTS is also the first model to take on a seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission – a first for any car in the segment – and necessary to support the high-revving engine. With that said, I won’t spoil the video for you. Go ahead and hit play, and enjoy four minutes and 22 seconds of pure joy.
